if army conscription isn't compulsory, I can understood, but come on, your country where you live provides you with most of the things, being egoistic and hiding from the duty is a cowardice.

Many people lie a little bit if they have minor problems they cannot find without asking. Yours are too many and too numerous to get by though. The knees would put you into a world of living hell if you got through the screens.

Only 50% of the US is fit to serve mentally or physically anyways. Under 10% of the population has ever served. 65% are from the south and that number is rising (and the total population number declining) as older generations from, draft days and demographics, die.

I said no, but within the next 5 years I will be a Marine, if its that long it'll be officer, if shorter then I didn't get into college and I'll go enlisted.
Also yeah I just didnt answer I am by no means in the army.

we all know that some fellas who don't want fighting wars will be forced to either accept the draft or "serve" in prison, they "deserve" it. Dodging draft is kinda like tax-evasion, if you demands your rights, you must do your duty.

I was raised with the ideals of secular humanism. As far as I'm concerned, my refusal to go out and kill another fellow human being is the greatest service for my country, for it was built on the ideals of the Enlightenment.

yeah, I know there is no way to go through with the army by Lying; pity though, at least I'd have the GI bill for university (that was the idea behind me wanting to join). risky idea though in retrospect anyhow, since I could get killed or suffer psychological ailments (too late for the last part, but you get the idea).

my knees are a ***** though-which is making field camp ever more miserable. doesn't help I don't get along with most of the other students (they're a bunch of p******s, and we'll leave it at that).

but darn, only 50% of the population? that's one unhealthy country. if the average age is around 35 yrs, this would imply that even a considerable portion of men of fighting age (17-45) are simply unfit. At least in my case it's not from lack of exercise. I'm also not comfortable with "mentally" able to serve. are Americans this dense? or do I misunderstand?

Nope, never served-- my family has a bad luck when it comes to War; Grandfather was in the Baton Death March, died in the Philippines; Great Uncle (Grandfather's brother) killed at Inchon... I didn't even want to join the Old Navy for fear of getting captured by some disgruntled customer.

actually, its' only go out with possibility to kill other fellow human being. Most will only get security's work and helping building something (menial tasks)

Your not fit to serve if you have wet the bed after the age of like 13. You can get dq'ed for seemingly menial things.

You can always get around most things though, mental problems can be hard. They tried to tell me I can't join because of flat feet, but I got around that. All you need is a letter that looks medical explaining how you are ok.

I once dreamed of joining the military when I was real young. I read up about military history, I had my whole life planned out. I was going to go to West Point and be a general and be a big hero and blah blah blah. Then I became more aware of politics and reality in general and became disillusioned with it all. Now I have grown out of that phase and realize that some wars are just and others are not and if there is a just war and I was called upon, I would probably join up.

Not to get political here, but current American wars are imperialistic in nature, and not just. So for now, I have no intention of ever signing up and if the draft was implemented again, I would evade it.

I got a letter notifying me I'll soon reach the draft age, however, we have no active draft anymore, so I won't have to do anything.
