    Chancellor Report, Spring 263 BCE

    Construction:
Three new projects were started this season: firstly, the merchant port of Sidon is being expanded, which will take about two and a half years. The second one is in Side, which follows the cities like Tarsos, Damaskos and Hierosolyma, in establishing city-state festivals. On top of that, the festivals in Damaskos have finally made their debute. The last project that was started is in Ammonion, where walls are being constructed to help defend Leontiskos Thraikikos and the city from the bandits who are plaguing the countryside until the 1st Syrian can make it back. It should take about 6 months.

As a result of the extensive trade, the marketplace in Salamis has expanded.

    Recruitment:
The entire navy has been repaired and outfitted with replacements.

    Battles:
Timon Arrhidaeos defeated a small Seleukid relief army, and Lysimachos Ptolemaios' navy under Admiral Praxagoras has defeated some pirates off the coast of Cape Tainaron.

    Diplomacy:
Our arch enemies, the Arche Seleukeia, has gained new allies in the Saka Rauka, a nomadic people far to the north. Though this is unlikely to directly affect us, it has the potential of allowing the Seleukids to divert more attention to our border.

    Misc.:
Philadelphos Ptolemaios continues his journey west.
One of our spies have infiltrated Edessa and is providing us with accurate and up-to-date information of its garrison and defences.
Paraitonion has grown so large that the government needs to be expanded there.
Alexandros Thraikikos' wife, Tanetamun, has given birth to a son. He has been given the name Theodotas Thraikikos.

The Seleucids continue to split their forces. A detachment of skirmishers was spotted leaving Palmyra, heading towards Edessa through Syria. I moved my army to intercept and crushed them in the subsequent battle. After the battle I set up camp in Syria.

A massive Seleucid army has invaded Syria. It outnumbers my army 2 to 1, so I see no alternative, but to fall back to a location more suitable for defence. I find it doubtful that the Seleucids would send such a massive army our way on my behalf, so their target must be to reconquer Antiocheia. Antiocheia is flanked by a river with only two crossings. I have set up my defence on the southern ford, which is the shortest route for the Seleucid army, but the northern bridge remains undefended. I am not sure whether or not they can reach Antiocheia in one season over the northern route or not, neither am I confident that I can hold the southern crossing if they should attempt to attack me. In other words; I need reinforcements. The garrison at Antiocheia has 3 divisions of archers from Crete. If I could be granted temporary control over at least two of these, I believe I will be able to hold the southern crossing if attacked.

Ah, good old Sarpedon Syriakos! My old character from WotB. Not sure if I want you to win or not!

Unfortunately, all of those Cretans are private units of Euergetes Ptolemaios (Leocordis), and only he can allow you to use them (unless you garrison Antiocheia). I could try rushing back I guess.

Hey, I didn't want to take the save to do just one thing so I will tell what I want done:

Can someone disband my Peltastai at Diaspolis-Megale? Those rebels in northern thebes block me from going north to memphis or alexandria, and it would be cheaper and faster to just disband the peltastai and train new ones up north.

    Chancellor's Report, Autumn 263 BCE

    Construction:
To help speed the march of the 1st Syrian, and to improve the trade in the region, some basic roads are being built in Ammonion. Just to the north from there, the governmental structures in Paraitonion are being expanded.

The mercantile port in Alexandreia has finally been finished, further improving its trade. In Side there are now new city-state festivals being held.

    Misc.:
Philadelphos Ptolemaios has hastened back towards Antiochieia to aid Timon Arrhidaeos in the defence of Antiocheia, leaving his machines of war in Tarsos. We hope that the heir can defend Side from the bandits who have turned up right at its gates. For this reason the Royal Navy has hastened north to help the Basileus turn back as soon as possible.

As Philadelphos Ptolemaios' royal army turns east, the Seleucid invaders turn around and leave Syria. Surprisingly, half the garrison of Palmyra now marches through Syria. A perfect opportunity to thin their forces down even further, so I attack. Making no effort to fall back, despite being outnumbered and outclasses, the Seleucid army offers battle in the Syrian desert. Our slingers cut through the Seleucid ranks as if they were paper figures. In a desperate attempt to turn the tide of battle, their forces charge our phalanx head on. Our cavalry outflanks and attacks them from behind. They have no chance. Their forces committed to the battle run for their lives, their reserves turn in ordered retreat. But their foot soldiers cannot outrun our cavalry and they too are cut down. Only the enemy cavalry and a handful of skirmishers escape back to Palmyra.

I set up camp in the Syrian desert, in the hope that the large Seleucid army is not within range. Come spring, we will march on Palmyra again.

Left Cape Tairanon, heading to Crete. I figure getting attacked by pirates is a good enough excuse to attack em, and also, KH has about 8 units in the woods to the west of Kydonia.

I attacked the Seleucid forces in Palmyra. Our enemy has foolishly neglected to build walls around this settlement, so I immediately attacked and crushed their garrison. After the battle, I enslaved 1433 villagers and lowered the taxes for those remaining to prevent riots from breaking out.
