They are very much favored in autocalc, and sometimes I just want to avoid a tedious siege assault battle...
The art of war, then, is governed by five constant
factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations,
when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field.
These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth;
(4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.

The most annoying thing about fighting Romans is the endless stacks of legionnaires you face if you play a faction that's not in a position to eliminate them early. I'm pretty sure Roman factions get a financial boost after the Marian reforms so you can leave one historical battle marker after another on the landscape, and look further up the road and see just as many stacks headed your way as you've just killed.
Other than that, my cataphracts looove eating the boys in blue/green/red for lunch. Doesn't take very long to get exp 9 units!

I hate Romans so much, before playing I will buff the other factions somewhat. My main thing is to give Eastern Infantry, Carthage/Spainish Town Militia and sometimes even Barbarian Warbands Phalanx formation... it helps a bit.
I hate playing against the Romans. When I first unlocked Sparta I was like oh yay I have the coolest units in the game.
About 4 hours later, after I had lay siege to many Dacian/Armenia cities, but was slowly being pushed back, the Romans pushed me back to F**KING ATHENS! Huge stacks of Roman soldiers.
I play decently when im behind in RTW, but not when im constantly fighting huge armies (see my anger on the Huns in Barbarian Invasion) and taking casualties. I dont think my playstyle favors "Perfect" play, I.E I should win a battle against a large number of Huns/Romans and take no casualties. Indeed, in my typical battle, I could lose many units, but break the ranks completely of the enemy with my cavalry charges. Thus explains why fighting the Romans/Huns for me is a terrific challenge, they throw unending superstacks at my small, but typically experienced horde.
