Default Traits and how to get them

Howdy. I've done some searching in the FAQ and on google but had no luck. I'm coming back to EB after about 2 years and, of course, playing as Rome (for me no other faction feels right long-term). I like to play with some rules I impose on myself to make the game more challenging and one of those rules is that only a consul (or ex-consul) of a certain age or above can lead a "proper" army and praetor (or ex-praetor) can lead a smaller army, but only within the borders of the republic.

Trouble is... I can't get consul or praetor. I've got Cornelius Blasio (I think that's his name, the guy who is faction heir under Dentatus at the start of the game), he conquered Taras, then Rhegion and now Messana. He's got 8 or 9 influence, 2 command, he's the faction leader, he's ex-praetor and yet it's 260 B.C and still he has not been elected consul. Nobody has. Rome has no consuls, and only 1 ex-praetor.

So, how do I get these traits? Also, I vaguely remember a sort of mini-mod for EB where someone made these traits easier to get and more frequently occur, but I can't find anything of the sort through google or on here. Was I dreaming or did somebody actually make this?

    Thanks in advance.

Try these, http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc06...ter_traits.txt goes in your EB-Data folder. http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc06...xport_VnVs.txt goes in the EB-Data-Text folder.

It doubles the chances of a character becoming Consul, it doesn't effect the requirements, but a few other changes mean you should have more command stars.

Thanks. When you say "mean you should have more command stars" do you mean my generals will need to have more command stars to be elected consul, or do you mean because of the changes my generals will gain command stars more easily?

Also, do these mods change the way they get elected to praetor? Because I'm having just as much trouble getting the praetor trait as I am consul, and they can't be elected consul until they become praetor.

I edited the op, the files linked now double the chance of becoming Praetor.

I based the file on my own personal edits. I change the Green line of traits so Green gives -1 Command, Blooded no effect, Veteran +1 Command, Grizzled +2 and Seen the Elephant +3. I changed the Lover of Beauty line of traits to negatively change Management rather than Command. The Drunk line if traits is also slightly changed to be harsher on Management than Command. I usually find the reason you aren't getting Consuls is due to FMs not having Command Stars (minimum of one necessary).

Make sure to backup your own files before using those, and they aren't save game compatible.

    Aren't these Konny's changes johnhughthom?
Also, is this save game compatible?
Either way thank you, I've been looking for these changes for a while. (same or similar mod is in the modding section, except the links are dead.. :( )

    EDIT: Not save-game compatible.

I don't doubt there have been similar mods made before, I just added higher chances for Praetor/Consulship on to the changes I personally made to the trait files. No, it's not save game compatible unfortunately.

That's not true in my experience. Looking at the trait triggers, it doesn't seem to make any difference where a character is.

Thanks for these, I'll be looking to use them in my next campaign.

A quick question. I've always accepted characters for adoption/marriage regardless of their promise or lack of), in the fear that if I don't then I'll be left with a shortage of FMs (especially early in the game) and potentially a glut of unmarried daughters. If you reject one particular adoptee or son-in-law are alternative propositions generally forthcoming?

Usually the game knows when you need more family members so it will bombard you with marriage proposals and adoption candidates. If it thinks you have too many you'll see these proposals a lot less.
Myself I only adopt exceptional men (great traits/ancillaries/etc). I wouldn't really worry about running out of generals/family members if I were you. :)
Besides, if you need more generals, just create an allied state government in a city and recruit all the generals you want.

If you only higher chances of a trigger then it's save-game compatible. I changed chances, descriptions and effects of several traits and triggers in ongoing campaigns and never faced any problems or CTD's.
I read that adding new traits or triggers isn't compatible, that's probably true since there must be a reason why people think editing the trait-file isn't save game compatible but I never tested that myself.

I tested it in my early Roman campaign. After installing the files above ALL characters in my game had completely different traits (especially 90% negative ones) and even had the victory conditions of another faction. Had start a new one. :)

Yes, something unusual happened with my campaign. All of my FM's names changed, they all seemed to have picked up some Germanic tribal trait and formerly very competent commanders became poor leaders. Luckily can go back to the saved game.
