Pikie is the english term for an Irish Traveller they are not Gypsys nor are they even relatedd to them, they used to be called Tinkers because they were travelling tinsmith who mended pots and pans etc as they moved around. No that would be Gypsys, it would be considered an insult to the daughter and her family to NOT pay for a lavish and over the top wedding, they take insults very seriously it would lead to very violent and nasty feuding between the families no doubt.
