    Default Steam Summer Sale

Title says it all. A wise man this time of year buys more games than he can possibly ever play and remembers the concept of an overdraft limit. With offers such as the Valve complete pack for £24 which INCLUDES Portal 2 and many fantastic offers simply on day one, it is truly a great time to give thanks to Steam and their absurd pricing sales!

Conventional wisdom is buy daily deals you want but hold off on packs until the end.

I still haven't installed the majority of game I bought in the Steam Christmas Sale 09 never mind any since, or any I might buy now. When these sales come around I have to laugh at all those people who constantly criticise Steam...

edit: Just checked, I have 49 Steam games I've never installed. Though a few are games I got free and never intended to play.

Nothing interesting on sale today for me. Although 33% off Witcher 2 is a good deal. Day 1 feels like a used car salesman trying to flog off his worst cars before actually opening up and showing the decent cars he's hiding away.

Bought THQ Hit Collection Pack for 50 € and 77% off. Already had Red Faction Guerrilla and STALKER and a wee-bit miffed I could not gift those extra copies.
Still a good price and now I don't feel bad about owning Homefront :D

Also, Norwegian government added a 25% VAT on electronical goods and services purchased internationally, so I decided to just buy before it came into effect.

Shogun 2 40% off today. (US$30) This is probably the lowest it's going to go for this sale. The daily deal is the lowest for the week. It might be a little cheaper at Christmas if you wait, but this is probably the best deal for the next few months.

I want to buy Shogun but I don't have visa card. Click and pay doesn't recognize my bank.
Are there any other options? Can I still buy the game today if I open a paypal account and immediately deposit some money?

    Pfah!

I can buy the Shogun 2 Limited Edition for €30 at a local store; nobody seems to bother the game. Every store has like 10 left.

Paypal typically takes 2-3 business days to transfer money from your bank account to its account. It's doubtful you'll be able to get it moved in time, but you can certainly try.

While I appreciate the discussion of this subject, I do wonder why it isn't part of the Special Offers thread which was made and kept exactly for the purpose of discussing such offers, wasn't it?

That said, I saw Witcher 2 and Shogun 2 at rather affordable prices but I have exams coming up so I thought it's probably a bad time to buy them now, I'll wait for the next sale I guess.

Likewise. It's been on my wishlist since the last sale.

If you plan on playing multiplayer I'll team up with you if you want.

Oh, and Just Cause 2 is so much fun. It's a bold statement, but I can't imagine anyone not having fun it it.

Got Just Cause 2 myself. The start screen had an option saying "Press Start" and I immediately thought "Great another cheap console port...". Then it changed to "Press Enter" and I'm wondering was that done intentionally to mess with people, rather amusing if it was.

Can't say I noticed that. It's an excellent port if it even is one. It ran perfectly for me while looking great. The biggest red flag for a bad port is unnecessarily bad performance.

Bioshock 2 for a mere £3.50. I don't get those people who dislike Steam and complain about games which require it to run. Sure it's bundled software but what isn't appealing about having copies of your game always accessible, disk free and fantastic sales which occur on a daily basis?

I can't believe my luck. I didn't buy it because I knew a sale would be soon. xD

I got KOTOR, Plants vs Zombies, and Hoard all for $3, and Fable 3 for $25. I was 5 minutes late to buy Just Cause 2 (I didn't see it on sale the other day), which made me sad.

Also, I bought the complete M&B pack for $50 a couple months ago. Gah.

I got the demo. I really dislike the battle interface, especially groups and minimap position. Glad I got a demo instead of buying it.

Finally caved and bought Modern Warfare 2 at $20.

I can't tolerate Bad Company 2's performance anymore, so I was in need of a non-cartoon man shooter.

Passing on Assault Squad but I'm definitely looking forward to Men of War: Vietnam.

Got Just Cause 2 at £3.49, I actually found the first one alright so may as well give it a go. The consensus on the Steam forums seems to be use a 360 controller so I'll borrow one of those before giving it a try. Nothing else has tempted me yet.

I noticed that quite a few of the games today are modern shooters. What distinguishes MoW from the other four?

Why hate Steam when there is something much deserving of your hate? Games for Windows Live. I was considering Fable 3, then saw some guff about GFWL and it was an immediate "Not buying this, even if it goes to 99% off".

MoW isnt a shooter. Its a cross between an RTS and a third person shooter. For the most part you direct your units, tell them where to go and who to attack and such, but you can also directly control a unit as in a 3rd person shooter. Also the cover system is much more elaborate than in most RTS games. Unlike other RTS's where your units have hit points, MoW has a system where while units do have hitpoints, a bullet will still kill your men. Hitpoints is more for when artillery hits nearby and your men take shrapnel. But be warned: this is not Company of Heroes, it requires a ton of micromanaging, and is best played with a friend.

Just try the demo, see if you will like it.
