At first glance I thought this thread was about something dirty.

Depends on what you mean. If you mean send money to a charity who then sends you updates about the kid, then I know lots of people who have done it with both legit and not-so-legit companies. The not-so-legit ones tend to send the same "updates" about the same group of kids to everyone, yet personalize them as if you are the only one assisting them. This tends to make them appear to be helping more kids than they really are.

If you mean real-life sponsor, as in Big-Brother Big sisters, I also know a lot of people who do that and they usually find it very rewarding. The people who have had a hard time with it were people who either they or the kid had to move away, which was depressing, or in a couple of cases the kid turned into a total hoodlum who was already in trouble. I know one guys whose "little brother" burglarized his house and maxed out his credit cards.

If you mean sponsor as in foster child, forget it, you are too young.

dunno about big brother, never have that, but having a (twin) sister means hell upon earth on me ; basically you have someone borrowing your clothes all the time and you can't borrow hers, as well as using your money without expecting to get a return.

BTW, Warman, if you want some money, try having part time job in fast food restaurants

    I have something even nastier.

Kisses and hugs from a Cobra.

On a more serious matter, I haven't, yet. Although, if life is calm with me, I do plan to put some money for charity. It somehow fills your life with a content.

I did it more than a decade ago. They sent me a card every 2 years or so thanking me and updating progress and such. It was very brief, and they actually indicated it was written with the help of a case worker, so there's really no proof the money was being used as it was intended. You either believe them or you don't. I stick with large reputable charities nowadays, like MSF and Red Cross.

Adopted an African family but anomynous, I just send them some money each month. They wanted to write me I heard but I like it like this. It's a lot for them not for me, it would be awkward

thanks for the info, I start to be grateful I only have one twin sister, since that means you suffer twice as much than me.
