Thread: why is town wealth dropping?

Default why is town wealth dropping?

I thought I knew all about wealth but I'm missing something. In my latest game I started tracking wealth a bit to know where to move my metsuke to (early game as Shimazu so I was acquiring richer provinces and some of my poorish starters were making jumps from buildings). At first it was all okay. But then I noticed that Satsuma was declining in town wealth, even though it was constantly showing a +growth at the end of each turn. Argh...

So I went back and checked (a bit) through some saves and some provinces were semi-regularly dropping about 20-30 koku in wealth; even though they were showing growth. Obviously there is one or more factors I was missing.

Candidates: keeping my provinces at 0 happiness (but why sometimes drop and sometimes not?); having non-clan religion in province (once again why sometimes and sometims not dropping?); or something else I haven't thought of.

Any answers or do I really have to reload 20 saves and try to figure it out?

    I dont know, sorry.
I do know that I have the same thing happen to me, also as Shimazu (!) lol.

My guess is that either there's a temporary gain in wealth when a province has a wealth-increasing building completed in it, or that overall things that affect every province, like Daimyo honour, loyalty, etc...negatively impact wealth in provinces that meet certain conditions. I think the think to do would be find out what all the provinces with lost wealth have in common and go from there.

Are you sure you had enough food supply to cover all your provinces? Especially if you built castles...
Also upgraded markets will "lose" food due to trading it...

No that's not the problem. I run a food surplus from turn 2 onwards. Whatever it is which is causing the drop is NOT noted on the province screen, nor have I seen/heard it mentioned in the encyclopedia or economic threads on the forums. Though I could well have missed something.

Yeah, I was just trying to take the easy way out and hoping some STW2 expert was on line to facilitate it. OK i'll bite the bullet and try to figure it out (oh god 20 times two minute reloads... the pain, the pain) and let youse all know what I find.

The growth is given by the town buildings, I don't know how your cities are, but seems like your taxation is over that...
If this isn't the problem, your game sounds corrupted...

So it's not due to admin cost going up from expansion I guess... That's what I was thinking of initially...

Okay, I went through my saves and it's pretty clear.

After turn 10 (i.e. from the beginning of turn 11, on N/N) if your happiness ends at 0 (actually it's probably less than 1, but there may be an additional penalty for negative happiness other than chance to rebel, don't know) then you get a 19-24 koku penalty to town growth (usually 22 or 23 but it's a bit random, seems related to the province, i.e. consistent, but I couldn't quickly peg it to likely possibilities like overall or town wealth or fertility). This is not noted amongst the growth factors on the province screen (argh).

It may be that it only happens when the province has some non-clan religion (easy to check from another clan) but this was early game Shimazu... so the only pure religion provinces were naturally happy. Daimyo's honor has no direct effect (can be indirect by effect on province happiness).

Some of my inital confusion was caused because I was considering the happiness of the province at the start of the turn (rather than the end of the previous one).

p.s. I thought I was exaggerating on load times but I checked a couple (you can only have so many cups of coffee) and although the earlier turns loaded more quickly it took 2 minutes 45 seconds to load turn 15... my poor 'puter will probably go fizzle, pop, bang if I ever get to turn 100.

Oh lol, if a castle has negative happines at end turn it will receive a -25 wealth...
Bankruptcy will give minus wealth too, which will grow if not fixed...
Other than that only random events can give malus afaik...

Make sure there's enough of a garrison because the growth is mainly attributed to the "Town Watch" part of the economy, where provinces with 0 happiness had to have "patrols" that cost wealth and money.
Ja mata, TosaInu. You will forever be remembered.
