Demo is out, game is launching next week.

Walk through of the demo here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb50aAFiOpM

Actually plays more like the books then the table top ie Marines wade through Orks but have a hard time against Nobs.

Looks awesome, I will have to find a parrallel universe where I have both the time and the money to play this.

PS Sorry if this is a thread double up. Didn't see anything immediately here.

Looks better than what I thought it would, being honest. Though the voice guy seemed to have movement issues.

So that's what it looks like. I dl'ed it but the graphics were wonky. I only gave it a few minutes, but I didn't even know about the different weapons or have any clue about the executions or fury. Maybe I'll mess around with the settings again to see if I can get it right...

Demo was hella sweet but I've just got too many games right now. I'll wait until it's on sale, especially since THQ always does great Steam sales.

I wish I could be more shooty than stabby, but I guess that's not really the point of a spessss mehreeen

Not only that, but they probably did it to put as much distance from the last 40k fps to be released. Fire warrior was abysmal in absolutely every way imaginable, but its story was pretty cool.

I played the demo and found it pretty amazing, demos rarely floor you with quality but the Space Marine demo did just that. It is wholly refreshing to see an adaptation of the 40k universe that is that much fun to play. And Relic did Bolters correctly for once! Much rejoicing should be had for that alone. If the final game is anything like it Space Marine is going to be an amazing game, and imho a serious contender when it comes time to name a GOTY. Though, Deus Ex: HR seems to have that almost locked down.

Going to try it later, shame they didn't release a mp-demo, the guys from eurogamer were pretty enthusiastic

meh this isn't for me (looks cool though, nice clean grapics) it's boring. And I hate invisable walls.

I really enjoyed the demo, and was a little surprised it played so well on my computer.

Only things I wasn't sure about were the pauses when you come crashing down using a jump pack, and the way the camera pans when you're in melee. It didn't cause any major problems for me, but I could see it being hard reorienting yourself.

I had trouble with this as well. The game seems to be built for console controls, I've never had much luck with 3rd person camera controls on the PC. I wonder if there is a hack to go FPS with the camera.

Updated video drivers helped, but the sound and game get choppy during heavy action. My laptop is probably at the low end of the game's specs. Which is a shame, because it's everything a 40K game should be. Soooooo much blood.

Yeah, I found myself being uncertain which way I was facing a couple times and getting a slugga or shoota round in the back. That said it did look very cool (far beyond anything I'd have expected when I started playing pc games 14 odd years ago) and the shooting was much more in the line with what I expect from a FPS. I also appreciated little touches like the dampening of background noises and brief, faint ringing sound when an explosion went off too close.

I was also very ahppy to see the system requirements weren't anywhere near what I'd thought they'd be. My slightly aged computer and video card that isn't worth writing home about seemed to do fine.

The demo left wanting to play the game while being fun enough by itself that I'll be replaying it quite a bit. It also made me want to start a Space Marine army for the tabletop game.

I'm afraid it get repetitive. Don't know how many weapons there are but I sure hope they are more interesting than those 4 in the demo.

Btw, did it also take you a while to figure out that grenade/mine launcher?

Yes it did. I figured it out on accident After shooting a few grenades off then forgetting about them and trying to do something else.

I imagine there will be a lot more weapons to choose from in the main game (3 different kinds of bolters didn't excite me much, either). I've seen both melta weapons and plasma pistols in screenshots, and the former in particular could be very interesting depending how they implement it.

There are certainly enough other weapons you can give the little guys in the tabletop game they could get inspiration from, and I suspect they'll make up some (never heard of a stalker boltgun). Flamethrowers, plasma cannons, missile launchers and so forth. Even more if you pick up terminator armor at some point in the game.

On the table top, the multi-melta was probably my favorite weapon. Short range, but a brutally effective AoE weapon. Given the high level of gore already, it would be interesting to see the effects from a melta kill shot.

As long as they have a great big hammer for belting those vile zeno heretics I will be content.

For the Emperor and other vaguely fascistic sayings.

Demo put me off to be honest.

The bolter sounds weak (why didn't they use the bolter sounds from DoW2? They're perfect) and it just feels shallow. Shoot some guys until they get close, then mash right click for a few minutes. Move to the next room and repeat.

LOL, it sure has changed since the version I bought when I was a kid:

Multiplayer?

With RO2 on the horizon, I have no need or time for another multiplayer shooter.

So you would have bought space marine for the SP?

Not really.

Borderlands singleplayer = Borderlands multiplayer but by yourself. Its like Diablo.

Space Marine singleplayer is a scripted campaign that has nothing to do with multiplayer.

That's not the point.
You buy a game for it's main purpose. That's why I said Borderlands. It's meant to play multiplayer, so you shouldn't buy it for the singleplayer.
Same goes for Space Marine.

If Space Marine's main purpose is multiplayer, someone should have told the developers. Nearly every piece of video and information up until very recently has been about the singleplayer campaign, demo included. :)

I don't get why you're so bent on telling me what I should or shouldn't buy a game for, though. Why don't you let me worry about that?

I don't tell you what you should do. In my previous post I don't mean you as in Graphic, but as in people.

I have yet to figure it out. And as for repetitiveness, from what I gather the genre that Space Marine fall into is like that. Transformers War for Cybertron is like that too. But it never got really boring as it had driving levels. And I guess Space Marine is going to break it up with jump pack levels.

And the games website shows power swords, plasma rifles, and a thunder hammer as being useable.

By pressing R after laying the "mines" you make them explode. The last one you placed will explode first, which I think is annoying.

BTW did you play War for Cybertron on console? If so, are there still players playing it? Cos on the PC nobody plays it.

I haven't taken the plunge on a XBL gold account yet. But from what I hear team death match is about all you can find.

Bolt Pistol, Boltgun, Grenade Launcher and Stalker pattern bolter (sniper rifle).

Plus Chainsword... that's 5 in the demo. The website refers to a few more, the combat controls show a combat knife, and a few other hth including a thunderhammer.

The power axe slices up the orks very nicely... that's 6 in the demo.

Where to find the power axe:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Look around the hanger at the end of the Inquistion level before the last massive wave. The power axe is in the large cylinder near the last set of ammo near the lift on the left.

6/10 from Eurogamer, bit of an odd score if you read the review as it's very positive. Weird.

I was looking up reviews and found something amusing. It was an article accusing the game of ripping off Gears of War.

Among the list of things Space Marine "copied":
Oversized armor and physique
Chainsaw weapons
Use of a large hammer in melee (this one is supposed to rip off Halo, apparently)

I'd post a link but I'm a little wary. Some of the comments were quite NSFW.
