Or that in 20-30 years everyone and their mother will have an internet history of some sort...

And I am sure almost half of Congress and most of their constituents probably smoked pot when they were young, but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't be taking a big hit if they were to admit it.

Well the whole reason I wanted the thread deleted is because it was sort of meant as an exclusive for .org old timers only. Granted, I hadn't had time to update it in a while, but if it is just going to be readily avaiable on the internet, then I might as well just make it a blog, or upload all the pictures to flickr, and I don't really want to do either right now. Plus, I am rather possessive of my photos.

None of this is any sweat off my back, less work for me TBH.

We do understand that this is an inconvenience for some members, but please understand that it's better for the Org as a whole. Our stats show that the Backroom is a significant draw on the Org, and having it hidden like it was reduced the number of people who would find it and post in it. Having the Backroom open to viewing prior to registration is for the good of the site as a whole.

I actually see it as a good thing for the long term. People could potentially be drawn to register in order to get into the backroom and join the fray. I remember years ago some member making me so mad I thought about what I was going to say to them the next day. The search function is also great for calling people on their ideas when they flip-flop the issues :)

Only problem with that is that people change their opinions and views over-time. For example, I was once posting something when another patron took a statement of mine from the past out of context in order to attempt to discredit that argument and it took around 3 replies to re-correct them on a mistake which I corrected in the original thread, but it causes awkwardness. There are even members who have had a colourful past and changed their views/opinions since, if they were repeatedly bombarded by something they said years and years ago, which they long since stated they don't hold that view, then it becomes rather silly.

Never really understood the American obsession of taking a quote from the 1980's and using it to discredit an opponent 20 years later in completely different circumstances.

Well, your example is extreme, and I agree most peoples opinions do change over time, and the american political obsession with flip flopping is overrated. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of finding contradictory stuff about someone you are arguing with, more recent like, such as in one thread I say I am allergic to eggs and in another thread I argue that Waffle House has better omelets than Dennys.

That I agree with. I have no issues with people who hold up their hands and say they were wrong about a view, though those who do like 20 interviews in a week and they contradict eachother is a different thing, such as that Waffle House one.

Well I for one don't really post much in the backroom even though I read almost all of the threads in there because I'm woefully uninformed compared to the rest of you guys. So maybe if you guys stopped being so smart, you could attract more members. Just a thought...

I don't know what the hell I am saying 90% of the time. I will read a post by CR and want to be a socialist for a day. Then I will wake up the next day and read the Euro meltdown thread and decide to be the objectivist American standing on the sideline cheering the dismantling of the welfare state.

Just fake it like me and hope that people call you out all the time so you actually learn something.
