Meanwhile, just very recently in Chiang Mai
here's the news in english, apparently CNN has the faces blurred, but...
http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/28/world/...ade/index.html
our Indonesian news sites aren't doing that

and let's see what those sickos do...
Well, it's actually a kind of artistic parades, and those are artistic things... not for glorifying Nazis, but part of greater yearly Parade theme that role-play 20th century history, and apparently this time it comes for Nazi.
but even with that, some Jewish organizations allready condemn them real quick and said that was hurtful to Holocaust survivor.
And now, every news here mock Israel and USA condemnation back (well, Indonesian news, muslim bias I must say), since when some artists plunge Quran into toilet, and someone create Muhammad cartoons, they are quick to say it was arts and freedom of expression... but, when a non-religious, historically based-parade theme are held, they're real quick to condemn that (although I doubt the Jewish authorithy will sent assassins to kill those poor girls...)
anyway, I've give you a warning, if you feel offended by this, DO NOT, I mean DO NOT, open my spoiler

even when the pics are actually more funny than offending, in my humble opinion.
some things to think with:
- what's the difference of utter blatant insult, with artistic expressions?

The kids were being ignorant, the school has apologised, end of story I think.

Many Jewish organizations
thrive on controversy, guilt, and fear - oh, and extortion. The Holocaust Industry is a big money maker today, but as each year passes, it becomes harder and harder to stir emotion. Thus, even schoolgirls in Indonesia marching around with Swastikas suddenly become worthy of strongly worded press releases and fundraising email$.

So the Holocaust survivors and other Jews who lost family embers to the Nazis don't have a right to be offended or to get angry when Nazis show up flaunting their ideology for everybody to see, and when they do it is just a scam to take our money. What about everyone else who suffered at the hands of the Nazis and financially benefited as a result, for instance American WW2 veterans? I suppose that when they campaign in remembrance of WW2 that is just a scam too.

They do. But even though this year's history parade was crude, to say the least (I don't see why the Hitlergruss was even necessary...), we must not assume that those schoolgirls meant to offend Holocaust survivors or other victims of nazi terror. To quote
Adrian II's wise words: end of story.

Sure. The problem is when Nazis and Nazi sympathies are
assumed and/or imagined in order to keep people in a state of permanent offence. Certain Jews are prepared to ride the Holocaust train as far as it will take them.
Bof. I suppose for Indonesians Nazism is quite exotic and yes, complete ignorance does the rest... Not to whip a cat, we would say in French. I remember a known Prince in England having the same problem...

Some people don't understand how Holocaust survivors feel, or what they went though - screaming "Nazi" verges on childish. Also, until Germany and the Axis Allies are allowed to embrace their past as a part of their history we risk the repetition of past mistakes, and we will continue to see actual glorification of men who's crimes should be unreservedly condemned.
For starters, we should put back all the Swastikas we took down after the War.
Thai nazi schoolgirls... am I the only one who.. oh forget it

Notice how the people who are outraged are not rioting, are not threatening violence and are not cutting people's heads off.

Adrian II was right.
Consider WWII actors and movies. By this logic they are also offensive to the survivors of WWII.
Kralizec 18:10 10-02-2011
Awesome!
In a very, very wrong way of course

I fail to see the problem.
They shouldn't be mocking the Nazis like that, they could rise from their graves.
Funny stuff.

If some people are offended by this obviously light hearted and non serious parade, what would real Nazis think of it? Wouldn't they be greatly offended by non Aryans taking the piss out of them?

that's it, why the holocaust survivors are offended IF the parade actually, should have mock those real white aryan Nazis more?

A lot of this is simply lack of knowledge i suspect. There are Sastikas all over the place here in Singapore, they simply don't have the same meanings as they hold for the West. Usually they're in a religious or ritual context. Occasionally the odd Nazi one creeps in but I've yet to see that with an overtly malicious intent, and generally I suspect it's a reference on a reference based around punks. I think in a way it's like all the rather inappropriate 'Im a drrty girll' t shirts you see grannies and children wearing here - something's lost in translation, in much the same way that you get idiots in the UK with Chinese tattoos that read 'chip shop' when they're translated.
