So, the candidate for "Norwegian with the worst accent ever"-award has yet again handed out the Peace Prize, this time to three women.

Two from Liberia, one from Yemen. One is an elected leader, the two other are grassroot activists for democracy and womens rights.

Jagland has stated that awarding them the prize is important for the "arab spring" to continue, as he cannot see peace and progress unless women are recognized.

Short-sighted. A general lack of representation, responsiveness, and participation (among other factors) led to the Arab Spring. To say that women's right played no role is to assert something that is not only contrary to evidence, but impossible to back up. Women, for example, were at the forefront of the protests in Egypt.

Now, once a new regime is in place, will they try to strip rights from and oppress their women? Of course they will. But women weren't putting themselves in harm's way in the Arab Spring because they want better ninja outfits.

Not to mention Henry Kissinger or "Mother" Theresa. Sigh. We give them one responsibility, just one, and yet they still can't help but mess it up. Tsk.
