Don't worry, here are some tips:

GO SLUMMING. There is a nearly 0% chance of losing (and therefore dying). You don't get as much gold or experience, but it is better than getting no gold or experience 'cause you're dead.

USE THE BANK. Every time you kill something, leave the forest and go deposit all the gold in the bank. That way you never lose lots of $$$ if you die.

HOARD YOUR GEMS. Don't spend them frugally, save them. There will be a time where everything you need requires gems, and if you waste them then you are screwed.

DONT PvP. Especially against OrgAdmin! In general, don't do it. Just about everyone will be a higher rank. Also, now would an appropriate time to apologise for having my grizzly bear maul you to death twice.

DON'T HAUNT. It is a waste of favor points with therother, you should save those for another occasion where you are dead so you can resurrect yourself.

Also, once you reach level 4 I have found that the game becomes way easier. You suddenly get loads and loads of gold, so much that you think you can buy everything. But you can't, because you find that all the the expensive items also cost gems. So after level 4, gold becomes just about useless in my opinion. You have tons of it but nothing to spend it on. This is why hoarding your gems is so important!

hmm what expensive things are there to spend gems on? I admit I've ignored the hat/tattoo/jewelry stuff.

Hats art only status symbols. Jewelry may be of more use and I admit that I don’t know what tattoos do one way or the other.

Gifts from the alley just seem to be a waste.

Horses and mercenaries are not bad. You lose the mercenaries when you kill the dragon but you do need them a bit to go up.

I wanted to hire mercs. I had all the required money and gems. But apparently I didn't have enough companions to convince them to join me. What I don't get is, what other companions could I get other than the mercs? I already have the grizzly. If that is not enough to convince them to join to me, then there is nothing really left that I can do, is there?

yes and you can keep using the skeletons while you have them.

    And Populus,

I never had a problem getting one. Maybe the bear is the problem. It is one of sorts. What are it's stats?

That's what I've been going for...and a bunch on foilwench who I keep hoping will give me something more than a dark arts point.

Can't see spending it on charm because you can get it for free...although I ignored violet for ages and lost 14 charm running a way from a cat so I'm the hole big time on that front.

For the record, the Cerberus/Gorgon fights are related to the jewelry and tattoos. Buying jewelry and tattoos will make those things easier to beat. Not buying them makes them nasty.

Well, now they have gone into real estate development.

Shacks, farmhouses, and castles. And there is the home repair costs.

Next they will be opening a Home Depot or an Obi.

I almost got TC in one of the pyramids. Lucky for him the net was so slow I could only hit him once about every 3 seconds. So he got away this time.
