Server has been updated to 1.1
So who all are now using Pirate Speak instead of English?![]()
The horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
I'll have to check it out.
I got some work done on the outer wall yesterday. Decided to take advantage of an empty server and do some roadwork. It sucks doing it at night and you can't skip to morning when other players are on.
Interesting mod for creating spheres and domes:

The seating is going to be a lot harder than I thought. I initially tried to do the curved seating sections by simply copying the one before, but after I had done about half of the section, it became clear that doing this wouldn't work. Since I was copying curves from the exterior, it wasn't matching up with the interior curve (which is much smaller). In order to get the curved sections working properly, we have to do individual curves for every single tier, which is extremely time consuming. (I use this site to generate the templates for the rings.) I'm going back and fixing the section I've already worked on (lit tiers are fixed, unlit are screwed up), but with the tiers done properly it is clear that seating design won't work on them. There's not enough space on the curved sections for both fencing and seating. There are a few options available to deal with this. First, we can either omit the fencing or the seating. Second, we can reduce the number of tiers of seating (either on the curves only, or everywhere). If we joined two tiers into one, we'd have enough room for both seating and fencing.
Thoughts?
I checked it out just now, and in my opinion we can lose the fencing. The arena looks quite epic with just the wooden seating and the fencing seemed a little out of place to me anyway....
I've been checking out redstone traps, and I'm pretty sure that some of them can be modified a bit so as to allow us to flood/drain the arena's combat zone, once it's completed.
We can have sea battles like Caesar.![]()

The server will go offline for a while today. I am reconfiguring the room the server sits in and will have to unplug it and the router at various points.
The server just politely informed us about it in pretty pink letters![]()

Server will be down for longer than anticipated. Router died, plan to get a new one tomorrow. Check thread, as IP will probably change.
The server is back online. The new IP is 71.191.163.226. It is also posted in the OP.
Cool. Thanks again for hosting.

Is that anywhere convenient? I know there's a zombie spawner close to the surface north of the arena, and I plan to make another XP farm out of it as well.
It's in my desert biome, in the middle of nowhere. Basically it's in the middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere. Should have had F3 up.
When I left and rejoined the server it fixed itself.
Just up and to the left you can see a large 'F" shaped cavern with torches where I explored previously. It's possible for me to find it again.
I hope everyone likes the fountain and my lighting idea for the arena floor.

I checked it out and it looks very nice. But how did you manage to get so much glowstone! I died thrice trying to collect just one stack!
The lava lights on the arena floor gave me an idea. We can use sticky pistons to turn them into some sort of traps eventually.
Also the lighting is nice, but despite the torches and the glowstone I believe there're some dark point remaining since I found a zombie in the hall in broad daylight.
Edit:
Also I don't know who put the Secret CIA Detention Facility sign near my old ill fated base, but it's quite funny![]()

I was like: "WTF is this building with the weird column doing in the middle of nowhere?"
It's pretty easy to make a flowing water/lava fall using pistons but lava falls so slowly that it's not much of a threat. A creeper blowing up a glass floor and sending you into a pool of lava, that's dangerous.

I gave up on my attempt to build an elevator for the combat floor. It's vastly more difficult than I have time for at the moment. However, in its place I installed a hidden staircase which opens up into the center of the arena. To open it from the inside there is a button, and from the outside there is a pressure plate. The switches are in temporary locations and can be moved later to wherever is felt appropriate. Please be very careful if you are digging in the center of the arena, as the mechanism is close to the floor surface. The lava lighting will probably have to avoid the dead center of the arena for this reason.
If you're just interested in a single switch multi-piston vertical lift I can do that. Or, I should say, have done that. The basement of my single player home has a redstone workshop where I experimented with vertical and horizontal systems.
I saw yours and it will require digging out a bit more stone. The blocks can't directly touch the pistons or they won't retract. Power also needs to be cut or they won't retract.
What problems were you having?

There are timing issues for pistons on MP servers which are not present on SP. In MP, there are apparently multiple checks between the server and the host before any piston actually extends or retracts. Thus, due to internet lag, it is possible for two people using the same piston system on a MP server will not experience the same exact timing as each other. Thus, programming a piston system according to your lag may result in a broken system for someone else, or even for you if you use it while experiencing abnormal lag. On SP, this is not an issue because all checks are done on the same computer without variable lag, so response times are always consistent. Apparently the only way to create a working SMP single stack sticky piston elevator is to make the delay very long between each extension, enough to compensate for even heavy lag for the user.
In addition, a two-way sticky piston elevator must actually work in two completely different ways. It must begin extending from the bottom up when ascending, but it must begin retracting from the top down when descending. Thus, you need to have separate circuits for every single piston, with the bottom circuit's activation signal feeding the next circuit up, while the top circuit's deactivation signal is feeding the next circuit down. I understand the theories behind all this, but it's implementation is beyond me at the moment. If someone else thinks they can manage it, I'd recommend building a free-standing test version somewhere outside the arena first, with a minimum of 3 sticky pistons (the arena one needs 6). I found a sample map of a working version, but the circuitry is so dense that it is very difficult to understand how it works just by looking at it.

I recently fell in love with a new redstone circuit I learned about while making the arena stairs. It's called a T-Flip-Flop, and what it does is toggle a redstone charge based only on a temporary input. In practical purposes, it accomplishes two things. First, it allows the use of a button instead of a lever for things that you want to stay toggled on and off for longer than a normal button press. Second, it allows an unlimited number of switches to activate the same mechanism without screwing up the on/off state. For example, on my hidden door, I had a lever outside and a lever inside, both of which opened and closed it. However, since it always stays close with an active charge, if either lever was toggled on, the other lever would not open the door, which could prevent a person from entering or leaving. With the T-Flip-Flop circuit, that is no longer a problem, as the input itself is supplied by the circuit, and the buttons only toggle that circuit.
You can find more info about the circuits here:
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Re...ts#T_Flip-Flop
I've built three so far and love them; one in the arena and two in my house (secret door and waterfall). All of them are the Z1 design, which is relatively compact and fits in a space 4x3x2. That's generally small enough to fit anywhere that you're installing any significant redstone circuitry.

Impressive TC. I find certain aspects of it frustrating and am mostly combining others ideas. I wonder why the game doesn't allow for circular motion. It would lead to some wonderful creations.
This weekend I may build a bridge from my sandcastle to the nearest NPC village. I think it will go infinitely or until it meets resistance.
I wonder why pistons can't push Obsidian though. I wanted to make an obsidian bridge.
