Org Minecraft Server

It looks like the pre-release for 1.5 should be out today or tomorrow, with the full release next week. Please remember that we run Bukkit, so we can't update until Bukkit itself updates. I doubt 1.5 clients will be compatible with a 1.47 server, so remember to NOT update your client until I post that the server has been upgraded.

I'm playing survivor and I started in a water area with a tiny island with 2 trees on it. Made smaller by the fact the one hill on it was hollow and filled with a pond beneath and the 2/3 of the flat part of the island had another pond.

Creepers started spawning on it and the only way I could preserve the tiny land mass I had was by dumping my few belongings and getting the Creepers to float out and explode in the water. It was like chewing on hand grenades.

In short order lit up the island, have oaks covering it. Have an underwater 6x6x6 cube of glass I can fish from and watch the sunset. I can see through the bottom of the glass cube beneath me to a lava lake I found as I created it.

Got really lucky earlier on and found a potato! Which is now many, many more. I've since left the tiny island and found much bigger ones and have crafted my first enchantment table... which I'm yet to use as I'm created a well guarded island to place the table onto.

That sounds like an amazing little island. Good call on the creepers. I imagine the island wasn't hard to light up.

What is the seed?

Glad someone is sharing my woes as a beginner. The Indiana Jones in Legoland image is pretty spot-on.

That is an excellent little map. Water spawn and a nice cave system to explore.

All server side. Just make sure not to download the latest update when it comes out or you'll be stuck unable to play for a couple of weeks, which would be a bit of an anticlimax.

I set up base a km to the east of the spawn point (via boat) and have a rainbow herd of sheep now. Spent ages trying to get a natural brown sheep then found out that my hoard of cocoa can do the trick.
A km west of the spawn point is a large mushroom biome which is an all you can eat buffet without hostile spawns. I set up an observation point there on the highest hill.

I should join multiplayer ASAP :)

Speaking of mushrooms, is there an efficient way to grow them? I've got a farm for everything except mushrooms.

EDIT: I could just bone meal them. Still, kind of a pain to do.

Where is it okay for me to start carving up some land to add value.

There should be plenty of map for you to find a place you like. If you take a screenshot of the area you want and circle around it it will let everyone else know. Take your time and tour the place. I've recently focused on building cities but TC has a very modern looking one next to his underground lair. I've built upon two and created one from scratch. Take a look at everyone's stuff for ideas.

I played your map on hardcore until I died in a cave. I'll keep that seed number and try exploring the surface some more. It seems like you have everything.

So I've finally got Minecraft to connect on my new internet connection, and it's telling me there's a new update. Has 1.5 come out yet, or is it just a minor update that's safe to download?

1.5 is not out yet and has been delayed again. The auto-update should be to 1.4.7, which is what the server is running.

I have found a saddle!!! Now to craft the carrot on a stick :)

My tree house and ranch are coming along nicely... a bit far from civilisation though.

It looks like you have a nice little area there. At the edge of the jungle, near an open pond, and not too far from a lava field.

I've got a full double chest of them from all my dungeon diving. You're welcome to take one. The chest is in my bedroom as I ran out of room in my super-rare stuff chest and haven't gotten around to renovating my workshop/storage room yet.

You are welcome to come and see the farm, ride the pony er pig. Just return it to the pen after playtime is finished.

I have a field full of carrots (64) and 3 captive pigs + heaps in the forest... so the only thing you will have to pay with is the long trek out.

Also you can visit my treehouse and dive bomb into the bay beside it... very refreshing way to start a day.

I just saw your place on the map - it's fairly close to my new project, so I might pop over for a visit sometime (as soon as I can get Minecraft to go online with my new internet...).

Is yours that giant robot near the mushroom biome?

If I get enough rail I will put in an express just so I can milk the mushroom cows...

It is indeed (although it's not quite finished yet). You can always transplant some of the mooshrooms using ender pearls if you want to set up a farm near your place.

Do mooshrooms need mycelium to live outside of the Mushroom biome?

They breed with wheat... just don't shear off all their red mushrooms or they revert to uninfected cows.
