I'll put up the January 12th version, if you want to take a look at it and see what state it's in. Personally, I think I'd find it depressing to go back to that point. I doubt I'd have it in me to rebuild the arena.

Well, if that's the way it is, so be it.
It's almost nicer to start over than go back. The map kit, the new exploration, and the things we've learned so far make it seem like a new adventure.

Ok, I manually replaced all the individual map files which were overwritten with backup versions from January 12th. All map files which were not overwritten have been maintained, so no progress has been lost on them. Essentially, the things that have been lost are changes in the areas around my house, Monkey's house, Scienter's house, the pyramid, Chuchimp's house, and diain's house. Of course, the biggest loss is the arena. The current state of the arena is with the outer wall built, but it was in the state where it was built out of stone, not stone brick, so we couldn't even keep the wall if we wanted to rebuild it again.
I shall leave the server running in this state so that people can take a look and decide what to do.
Thank you for all the work.
I'm happy. All the changes I made to the village are still there. I assume my buildings are safe too.
Thank you.

Thanks TC.
I just checked in, and I haven't lost anything serious. Just half stacks of dynamite and glowstone and some renovating I'd done to make 'guest rooms'
BTW if the world gets rebooted and everything is started over, would you mind uploading these January 12th files?

Well, my village is up and running. Complete villages (church and well) are nice and a real focal point of the game; both above and below ground. The village is secured and protected by multiple iron golems. Now to wire it up, build a stronghold, and add a rail system.
Some children escaped and I had to kill them. I didn't notice that one of the golems escaped as well. Those things pack quite a punch.
If any Orgers are interested we could use a few more players. The game is cheap (or free) and there are a few veterans to help out.
TC: Can we get a current map?

All my Snow Golems died in the first rain.
I now have a couple of Iron Golems patrolling my grounds though. Do those things just protect villagers or attack monsters aggressively?
Also I redid some of the work I'd done on my castle windows. It would appear however that this update glitches the paintings? Because I can't seem to take them off the walls. I've had to break the walls to take the paintings off.
Also I need to find some new glowstone deposits because I just realise that while I no longer have what I mined, the blocks I mined in the Nether are gone all the same.
And I checked the arena...it really is a pity. But since we now have twice the height limit I suggest the next community project is a many towered endstone castle.
The horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Endstone would be a nice exotic material.
I plan on making fortified snow golem turrets with glass roofs and lava/cactus base. I could make them floaters too. I haven't seen them in action but even though they seem pretty useless there is nothing else to fill the gap. Properly fortifications with overlapping fields of fire should protect them.
I've never seen the iron golems engage enemies. I only had one attack me after it saw that I attacked a villager so that may be the only trigger.
I'm worried about glowstone supplies. there were a lot in the arena and I don't know how plentiful a resource it is. They may trade at a premium which would make it difficult to construct lamps.

If that's the case about Iron Golems then it's pretty bad. I was planning to make a bunch of them and letting them loose around the Noob Hotel.
As far as glowstone is concerned, AFAIK, the Nether is supposed to be infinite like the Overworld. So by digging through the Nether walls and opening up new areas (generating them literally), we should be able to find more glowstone. Obviously it won't be easy. For some reason Ghasts always attack me when I'm on top of a high column, mining the glowstone, and I fall right down and die.

The notion of walking past the current arena site regularly is really depressing to me, so I'm probably going to relocate to someplace really far away. I'll build a new mega-house and expand from there. To get there, I'll build a long road out in some random direction in the Nether, then build a portal to pop out on the surface world a really long distance away. This will involve carving at least a basic path through lots of unexplored areas of the Nether, so that road could be used to get to new sources of glowstone.
Done and done.
Next time we're on together we can go mine some glowstone Vlad.
And just mark the spot where you start the tunnel TC and community project number two will be underway. And arena or a castle or a mega base, whatever it may be. I confess I did not participate in this one as much as I would've liked.....four of five times at the most actually, but this time I'll help all I can.

Hello, so I just started reading this thread about, oh, 4 hours ago, and was so interested in the game that I just bought it, would I be able to join this server?
WARNING: I am a complete noob, have already died 5 times, twice to starvation.
My account's name is Snowstorm014, for future reference.
Any luck on getting in?

EDIT: It's still not letting me join

Sorry about that, I took a look and I had added Snowstorm914 instead of Snowstorm014. I have fixed the error, you should be able to get on now.

Hey, I encountered an error when I was going along the rail system, just before reaching the pyramid there appears to be a gorge, which I can't fall into, but the cart also can't cross, just letting you know. Also, I was looking at your houses, so far Scienter's and TC's, and they made me feel ashamed just to have my dirty little rat-hole of a home exist in the same world, those are aesthetically and functionally amazing!
That gorge is actually a glitch when chunks don't load. Happens to me all the time. Either reduce your view distance and/or video settings or simply disconnect when it happens and reconnect.
The horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Just make sure you get a good look before you disconnect and rejoin.
Their houses are pretty amazing. If I could find a way to depopulate than repopulate my village I think I'd be a contender.
I experienced a small annoyance with nether portals: I build one far away from anyone else on the overworld but the gate spawned close to therother's in the Nether. Now when I take the portal to my village it goes to his mountaintop retreat.

That's how Minecraft works. New portals connect to existing portals unless they are more than a certain distance away, but that distance is really large (like 1000 blocks I think). Instructions on how to fix your gate connection are here.
World map has been updated and is current as of last night. It's so depressing to see the unfinished arena on that thing. Maybe I will have to rebuild it at some point.
Thanks for the link. The distance in the overworld should be about one Minecraft day's travel; far more than 1000 blocks. I'll try to fix it in the Nether.
Edit2: How long does the program take to update a map? My upgrades over the weekend aren't showing up.
