Just checked the wiki on the portal linking distance. The distance is 128 blocks from the destination in the Nether. That works out to 1024 blocks in the overworld. The 1024 isn't precise, because overworld portals don't have to be placed precisely at the same coordinates as their nether equivalents, but the 1024 figure is a pretty good rule of thumb. If you're within about 1024 blocks of another overworld portal, you'll have to manually build a new nether portal to get it linked properly.

Thanks again for all the research.

It is a post-1.2 map but structures present this week aren't showing up. It's the NPC village to the lower left corner. The wall is there but the dock, castle, beacons, etc aren't there. They've been there for at least a couple days. I'm not sure how the mapping program works or how it updates features.

Hmm... might be related to the change in map file formats introduced by 1.2. I'll see if there's an updated version of the mapping program.

Good point. It also shows a jungle biome near the village as standard forest.

Yeah, I think it's a compatibility issue with the new file format. Tectonicus (the mapping program) hasn't been updated since the new format was released. I really like this program and am reluctant to switch to another though. I'll give it a few more weeks to see if they update it before I go looking for a new mapping program.

It is probably due to the 16x16x16 changes.

When Bukkit is updated, you could "Save" peoples works lets say, the Arena for example, then you can merely copy and paste it in a new if things ever came to worse again, or even have them saved so others could enjoy the works elsewhere. Might be an idea for "Completed Structures" to be saved in such a format.

Also, a possible solution could be is to turn Creative Mode on. I know you are very hesitant to do this, but it would greatly speed up the amount of time and effort required to rebuild the Arena.

Did I hear copy and paste?

A temporary creative mode would be nice to correct my village problem.

I would agree to this if people agree to use it only for fixing problems that were caused by the partial map overwrite. It would also have to be restricted to a very short period of time, as people would essentially be blocked from building new things while it was enabled.

I hate to make demands on the server god but all I ask for is a copy and paste of my desert peninsula. Well, that and genocide with genetic engineering.

    gamemode <playername> <0|1>
Changes the game mode for playername to Survival (0) mode or Creative (1) mode. Remember, this will only affect playername and no one else. Note: Player must currently be online for the command to work.
You can turn it on per person, TinCow. So people can still continue building and what not as per normal, just that it is turned on for people to make repairs to their buildings and what not, and for yourself and the main Arena construction team to greatly speed up that process.

    Edit:
Oh yes, I totally forgot, with this patch, the "roof" of the world has been lifted as well. It means I can finally "finish" the pyramid and give it a cap!

Just tested it on the server and it works perfectly. On another bunch of good news, the ceiling of the world has been increased, meaning things can now be taller, such as my pyramid!

Alrighty then. I authorize creative mode for anyone who wants to fix issues caused by the overwrite. It can only be switched on by console commands while you're online, so you'll have to find someone with Ops to give you creative mode. I'll try and monitor the console when I'm around for people who want to do this, but I won't be looking at it constantly and I won't have any access to it at all on Wednesday. Tiaexz also has Ops and can change your mode if he's around.

Please be honest and only use this tool to rebuild things that were lost, and not to construct new things.

Yeah, the map isn't showing any of my structures either, but at least I know where I am now, no more lost explorations!

Also, how did you guys create that rail station? All of my efforts so far, however careful I am, lead eventually to me falling either to my death or into the lake near my home.

If you're talking about building near edges/cliffs, you need to crouch. When you are crouched, you cannot fall off the block you are on, so you can move all the way out to the extreme edge and build in safety.

Looks like my village may be permanently bugged:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...o/page__st__80

My suicide booth doesn't work properly and I need to redesign it. Fortunately, a lot of villagers tend to congregate on top of the same building at night and I may have to do another controlled burn if they get out of control again. Naturally spawned villages are the only ones bugged. Unfortunately that means I can't turn my town into a metropolis and it's too far away to easily ship them about.

Scratch that: It looks like all large villages are bugged.

Vlad, I'm sorry to report that I think we'll need to increase the arena lighting even further. I walked into it this evening and there were 3 creepers and a zombie just wandering around the floor. One of the creepers popped before I even saw him, and took out a chunk of the floor. I've temporarily scattered torches around the floor to keep them away, but it might be best to just go overkill and double the amount of lighting.

Actually, it turns out it's not the spacing of the lights at all. The problem is with the sheer size of the arena. When approaching the arena from the north, the chunks with the lights load before the chunks with the light sensor. So, the arena floor remains dark until you get closer to the entrance. In that time, monsters can spawn. If you approach from the south, this problem does not occur. I think the only way to solve this is to build another light sensor on the north side as well, or maybe just deal with the occasional spawn.

Thanks. I noticed the torches and worried that I screwed up the lighting again. I noticed the lighting issue on the floor and it may be tied into the lighting problem in 1.2.3.

I stopped by the arena a few minutes ago and had to share these screenshots.

    The Grand Entrance.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    Inside the entrance:

    And the monument:

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The entrance to the arena was redone in creative mode but the creeper face (with pulsing eyes) and the monument were done by TC in survival mode. Brilliant work!

I installed the HVAC unit and will work on the scoreboard but I'm really impressed. I try to be competitive but I concede defeat. Amazing.

The lighting on the statute (torch and lights in the fountain) are tied into your light sensor. They only active at night. I'm not quite done with the statue plaza and bridges yet. They need some nicer lighting than just torches, but I'm pleased so far.

Does anyone know if you can transfer a copy of Minecraft to another device, like a laptop, without repurchasing the program. I'm assuming you can connect to the same profile using your username and password.

I hope so. If the lead developer gave the OK to flat-out pirate the game I hoped there wouldn't be a problem with making copies.
