Ouch! Sorry to hear that Centurion1 You would think features like a profile would be stored in a separate cache or something.

I have read a lot about the game and I'm dieing to play it. Wait until the Construction Set and a player made "patch" or just dive in? Over at UESP they have documented a lot of the gamebreakers... would it be sufficient to just avoid the known bugs and hope I don't "discover something new?

This is what you call typical Bethesda game experience.

And that's why you want to get it for the PC. With the console you can solve such annoyances.

It's the poor souls trying to play the game on a PS3 I feel for. Once your save game reaches a certain size the frame rate is forever reduced to unplayable levels. Speculation has it that it's a combination of how the PS3 shares its RAM, how the game keeps saved world data in RAM, and the fact the game saves the status of every single object you move forever instead of implementing some sort of reset that moves it back after X game days. "Sorry, you moved a few too many baskets and it's eating up the GPU's RAM. Start a new character." If that speculation is correct then a fix may not be possible as it would require some hefty engine re-writing. This in addition to the longest load times of any platform, and all the problems experienced by the other platforms.

    Sounds good!

I guess I'll just do what worked for Oblivion; save early, save often, and don't play too long w/o jumping out of the game for a bit. Even at it's most stable that game had some quirky surprises.

The Official Forum was informative; the most common complaint seemed to be that there is no way to be "good"/"heroic" in carrying out most of the quests. Certainly not game-breaking for me (if true) but a surprising oversight by Beth.

yeah instead of white or black there is quite a bit of grey in this which i tend to play. even when i try to be evil on a playthrough i just cant. i always console myself that this reflects well on my character.

I play on the PC, but have you tried simply uninstalling and reinstalling the game? Because if even the earlier saves are messed up it must be some problem that might've occurred with the installed files itself, and not just a bug.

How many of you have done the Companions questline? Did anyone else get a messed up camera, permanently, after the ceremony where you drink the were-wolf blood? I can't find anywhere on the 'net where this bug has been reproduced, but it permanently corrupted the character--even on early saves, the camera is permanently zoomed way the heck in. I was playing a Breton Sword/Shield guy. So if you bring a Breton to the companions, watch out.. and please post here if you have the same problem. Wanna make sure its not just me.
ive heard of this before actually im always looking up bugs as i encounter them so if i see the fix for this ill let you know. personally besides the freezes which i can live with to an extent (not long term though or i may get pissed) its the npcs not engaging me in conversation when they ar escripted too that kills me. bethesda needs to learn how to test their games i refuse to believe they have because there are way too many bugs that are heinously prevalent.

tbh all of these bugs and glitches are souring my experience to the point where my desire to play is shrinking.

    Took the plunge!

I find the controls a little clunky but I guess I'll get used to it. Need to see if one can map a lot of the clicking to a mouse or controller.

Graphics are nice but that's not what I play a game for; need to see if the story picks up.

I know I'm doing a lot wrong; Breton-sign of the Mage and I've killed everything with a mace so far :p Guess I better re-track to the first dungeon I passed and learn how combat really works :)

    For ES races in broadest storkes;

    Pure Combat:
    Nord
    Orc
    Redguard

    Pure Magic:
    High Elf

    Pure stealth:
    Kajit
    Wood Elf

    Magic/combat:
    Breton
    Dark Elf

    Combat/stealth:
    Argonian
    Imperial (maybe)

The Imperials and the Argonians are the weakest races (in terms of bonuses). That said with some fore though and luck any race can succeed in most situations.

imperials bonus gold ability is filthy. none of the bonuses for any race are really super strong but that extra gold is very very noticeable. instead of say five gold you find 15. ive also seemed to find better loot overall and more gems.
