Default "It's not a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that."

Why read about thousands of people being killed, religious genocide being swept under the carpet and a mind numbing mass of symbols, acronyms and hexes?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Sorry Monty

Read about athletic excellence, sporting endeavour, tactical genius and motivational skills that would make Caesar look like a hopeless loser. Yes, the IFA Championship 1 in Northern Ireland. Football, or soccer, at it's finest. And management of these pure athletes to get them to perform at superhuman levels. A Football Manager 2012 AAR! You know that thing your life has been missing, but you couldn't quite work out what it was? This is it, a work of literary perfection, set to the game I have seen described recently as "less interesting than a street cleaner simulator", "managing spreadsheets" and "torture".

This sounds like a pretty neat idea, actually. Onward towards Europe!

If you want something to laugh at, the story of my complete failure in the first season of my AAR may just be what you are looking for.

Following the demise of the first AAR, due to bug, the sequel will be starting soon.

This is Football Manager, not FIFA Manager.

That reminds me, MLS Cup Final is on soon.

You ever been to a Timbers game? The seem to have one of the better support bases of the American teams.

Is there an NFL style salary cap in MLS? Just looking at the Timbers squad and wondering why Galaxy have Beckham, Keane and Donovan, but the Timbers don'y have anybody anywhere near that standard. I recognise a couple of the strikers who were at Man Utd when they were younger and the keeper, and that's it.

lol, just watching Press Pass, an ESPN soccer show, Robbie Mustoe as a pundit!

I actually quite enjoyed the match, Galaxy certainly deserved to win, though I was pulling for the underdog myself. The one noticeable aspect about the game was the lack of histrionics from the players, nice to watch a game where the players just get on with it, rather than try to get each other booked. Good winning goal, the "marquee" players all involved.

MLS operates as a single entity, it owns all the teams, which are controlled and managed by separate "owners". Player contracts are with the league, not with the individual teams, and MLS tries to get stars in bigger markets to increase revenue. Not really fair, but necessary since the start in 1993 to keep the league solvent. They have managed to grow the league, get soccer-specific stadiums built, and I think most of the teams are now making money. Given the previous history of soccer leagues in the US, MLS has done a remarkable job with this slow growth method. My biggest complaint is the season (spring-to-fall) but there is no way MLS could survive playing fall-to-spring with NFL, NHL, and NBA (oops!) going on at the same time. Playing games in Houston during the summer must be brutal...
