Hello the third edward, a belated, yet warm, welcome to the .Org!

I’m sure there are a few of us who would like to help, yet the request is a bit vague.
Could you point us in the right direction by giving us a more specific timeframe, whether you’re confining your research to Medieval Europe and the Mediterranean basin or you’re looking towards Central and Far East Asia as well, are you focusing more on tactical brilliance or you want the ones who were able to actually win the war, not merely the battle?

    In no particular order:

    Charles Martel "Charlemagne"
William I of Normandy "The Conqueror"
    King Richard I "The Lionhearted"
    Edward, "The Black Prince"
    Henry V of England
    Genghis Khan
    Ogedei Khan
    Kublai Khan
    Timur the Lame
    Frederic I "Barbarossa"
    "Saladdin"
    Khan Krum the Terrible
    Tsar Simeon
    Tsar Kaloyan
    Knyaz Alexandar Nevsky
The art of war, then, is governed by five constant
factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations,
when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field.

    These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth;
    (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.

If I'm not mistaken, Charlemagne was the grand son of Charles Martel.

    You are both correct

The grandson of Charles Martel was also named Charles; and he was part of House Martel of course - hence factually he was also Charles Martel.
Charlemagne is merely the bastardization of Carolus Magnus i.e. the Great and it came into use at a later date.

Vlad Tepes, Robert Guiscard, Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (El Cid) and Alexius Comnenus were all top-shelf.

Vlad Tepes maybe the least heralded despite basically holding off the Ottoman Empire's march into Europe single-handedly against enormous odds.
