There's some speculation (?) that this was some sort of escape attempt.

According to the local news, 2 people died and 64 were wounded. One of the dead is one of the attackers, the other is a 16 year old boy, an innocent bystander.

I also heard the rumour that it was an escape attempt. It is unclear if it was only 1 attacker (the one who died) or if there were more.

EDIT: now they say 4 people died and that the attacker was alone. Number of wounded has gone up to 75, some of the wounded are still fighting for their lives, so death toll might go up. The attacker probably shot himself through the head. Most of the victims are youngsters in the range of 15 to 20 year old. There's still a lot unclear.

Condolences to our Belgian friends. Where the heck did he get his hands on grenades?

Death toll is now 5. A 17 months old child died of her wounds. Heard it on the radio this morning.

EDIT: another child, 23 months, died of her wounds as well as a 20 year old male. Together with the other baby, two teenagers and 75 year old lady, that brings the death toll of the attack on 6 (7 if you include the attacker who committed suicide on the scene). The attackers' cleaning lady (45 years old) was also found dead; he probably killed her before he went out on his rampage. Rumour has it he also transferred a large sum of money on the bank account of his GF the day before his attack, so he probably planned it all beforehand.

My condolences and sympathies to the victims and their loved ones. It is depressing how these lunatics appear one after another.

    My condoleances as well.

The guy also killed his neighbours' cleaning lady prior to the attack. Are there any ideas yet why he did any of this?

The man recently got out of jail (2010 I believe) and was again called in for questioning by the police. Was this the reason?

The scary thing is that he easily got hold of grenades and such.
It now seems that he was mortality wounded by the fourth grenade.

Horrific news, especially wrenching to hear about babies being killed. To echo what others are asking, how does a lone nutter get hand grenades?

A live grenade for 50€? I doubt that.

I read a about a journalist who set out to acquire an AK. He got it quite easily but it was more than 400€ I believe.

I doubt Gustaaf and Veerle would name their son Nordine, and Amrani probably isn't their family name

Well yeah it probably takes about that much to get one smuggled into a place like belgium, but I would imagine if he went to some place where gun laws are either lax or nonexistant, like lybia, he could get a grenade on the cheap.

Heard on the radio today that 300€ is a normal price for an illegal AK in Belgium. Great.
