Howdy Fellers, an interesting thing occured while i was playing as Mori.

I had cleaned out central and Southern Japan, when I finally ran into the Purple Horde. Well, I was like, "yes! Time to kick some Horde's pigu!"

So anyways, Lord Hojo send in his trusted generals and I proceeded to kill 'em all before he ran out of generals and forced to attack himself. Well, at Owari, Lord Hojo was the first to cross the bridge. I was impressed by the bravery shown by Lord Hojo, so I decided not to turn him into a Pincushion, and let him be before I squish him. Then, this happened... facing entire army of the Mori, Lord Hojo and his Hatamotos did a Kevin Costner impression, as in Dances with the Wolves. He sort of ran up and down the Mori line, not attacking, just wondering around.

I was deeply moved my his Bravery( or foolishness?) and held up Yaris from charging him. So proceeded to turn the Hordes into Porcupines while their Lord marched up and down the Mori Line. Eventually, most of the enemies ran away, and stupid Hojo refused to leave, so I send in my Yari Samurais to "gently" escort the Hojo away. I had no intention of killing him, so I did not flank him, but attacked him from the front. Well, despite all my efforts, he refused to retreat, and with his Hatamotos blocking his escape route, he got stabbed where the sun don't shine and breathed his last... and Hojo went Ronin. Sigh... looks like even if you try not to kill their taisho or Daimyo, they still find way to get themselves killed... :-(

Well most of the campaign games I played
against the hoard ends up with a RONIN hoard
because of this suicidal DAIMYO thing. The
first time I encountered them on expert mode(it was HOJO and I was playing as SHIMAZU) I thought of just restarting my
campaign since the sight of 25000+ enemies
parked on Shihano is depressing. But their
stupid DAIMYO just want to kill himself and
attacked my 16 units army by himself
(or was he just scouting???)Fighting a
ronin hoard is then easier to deal with.

Yeah a suicidal leader is truly depressing on both sides

btw I think the enemy taisho tends to rush too fast in heavy fogs - the system seems give him too little visual range compared to us (under the default realistic settings).

However, if the enemy is defending and is stronger than us - then we might want to have a fine day so the system allow them to "see" us perfectly and they usually actively attack us (like my hojo chap 4).

    Greetings,
How many men did the Hojo Daimyo take down himself before you finally killed him?

Did the daimyo have an escape route, or was he blocked off? If the Daimyo can't retreat out of the region if he loses the battle, he'll go into super kamikaze mode and try to take as many people down with him.

Of course, his army always has more sense than that and they tend to leg it when they start losing, so most of the time the suicidal daimyo is left fighting his war on his own.

I wonder if this is a side-effect derived from the benefit of having the daimyo charge with his troops. I'm finding that my troops hold together much better with my daimyo in the fray; however I pull him back before he gets into trouble. Perhaps the code doesn't do this as well.

Yeah, troops tend to stick with it if your general ( and especially you daimyo ) is close by. Sticking your daimyo as far away from conflict as possible may keep him out of danger, but troops on low morale are more likely to head for the hills than if there's a big guy on a horse screaming orders into their ears.

Incidentally, grouping like units together also holds up their morale. So standing, say, Yari Samurai next to other Yari Samurai units will bolster their confidence and make them less likely to break.

I'm sure you all knew this anyway. I'm probably trying to teach my Geisha how to serve tea here .....

Yeah, another weird attitude of the dumb DAIMYO is not fleeing when
he and his bodyguards are the only enemy left on the battlefield
and you greatly outnumber him (and you even have numerous yari samurai units)
facing it. This happened to me as Hojo against Mori where I manage to
kill/rout all his troops and he was on the far side of the map
(not a suicidal DAIMYO but a cautious one???) Instead of fleeing,
he turned from a cautious daimyo into a suicidal one and charge
my men!! Well at least he tried to charge and flank one of my archer
units and not the yari sams. Anyway, I was not happy to kill him
because I have previously terminated a mori HEIR and I'm not sure if
he got another one…cause if I kill him, most of his leftover army (quite a
large one) will be given to his first ally, SHIMAZU!!
