Assembling stuff from Ikea is as far as I go with making my own furniture.
Both my grandfathers were carpenters though, and they did make some very beautiful things, some of which can still be admired in the house I grew up in.

I have a future father-in-law with some extensive experience with making his own furnuture. Although, I think he would rather look on amused as I make every possible mistake before actually helping. I really like the man but he has to have his laughs.
