    Default Orgahs playingDwarf fortress

I first started to get interested in Dward fortress by accident when I read the story of Boatmurdered. The AAR was such a hilarious disaster that the game couldn't be anything other than fun. Since then I downloaded and deleted DF several times and have gotten better and better at it without losing touch the whole 'this will all end in hilariously'-motto of the game. Once again I'm feeling up to giving it another go.

Anybody else having fond memories of DF or is anyone still playing it?

Ah yes, dwarf fortress, I remember that old chestnut, though really the most I can remember is a particually disasterous expedition when my dwarves set up shop right next to a Roc and were picked off one by one before they could even dig out a new storeroom.
    Good times.

Still playing it. Using the Masterwork mod.

Also, this is something I ran into during .40d long time ago:

And if you really like Succession Games, read up on the only fort to not only destroy the HFS, but also make a mockery of it by MOVING THE DWARVES INTO IT.
Swordthunders and... the Succession Game to reclaim Swordthunders after being overrun. Hilarity ensues.
    Obviously, language warning.

I cut my teeth on 0.31 last year and returned by chance for 0.34 a month ago, stuck away from home for work with nothing much to do and so naturaly spent the time managing idiot dwarves. I suspect I'll never have as much time as that to consecrate to DF but also never had I found it as rewarding.

Had a bit of FUN when I realised trolls were construction destroyers and they knocked out a few flood gates on themselves, flooding out my trap strewn alternative/siege entryway.

I'm glad I figured out how to turn off the vampiric and lycanthrope syndromes (are they syndromes?) in world gen as it was even more FUN (but not fun) when I found my legendary weaponsmiths being killed off from within.

The general direction of travel of DF is a little odd, to say the least, the ever expanding complexity and feature list turns what is already a micro managing fest into a countdown to nervous breakdown. For me anyway. But then I'm almost certainly still Urist McNewb.

Constructed Walls (keypresses: b-C-w) and Drawbridges (b-g, then choose any direction EXCEPT Retracting)
