Default PC scene seems to be a really ungratefull crowd sometimes

Over 60.000 signed a petition to port the absolutely awesome Dark Souls to the pc. They listened, even if they have no experience with developing for pc and admitted it will be very very hard for them, and probably very expensive, and that they probably wouldn't be able to solve some of the (minor) issues from the console version. Then there come a petition where the pc-crowd insisted a steam-release (wth for, anything wrong with being a boxed version. Well they managed to do it anyway, the game's framerate-issues they never understood (and aren't a gamebreaker it happens in a few places) why they happened are apparantly gone. Now they complaining because of a constistent 30 fps cap in the same resolution as the console version. No matter that they added 8 hours extra content (we will get the DLC later, for free gawd I love them), but once again they are screaming 'no buy' what half of them won't do anyway as they will pirate it. If I made so much effort to give people what they asked for, which is a port of one of the most immersive and well rounded games ever, fixed some very complicated issues (huge world no loading times whatsoever), sell it on budget, add no less than 8 hours of extra content, I would consider it to be a courtesy not worthy of repeating. You got what you asked for you meanies and more.

    Couldn't agree more.

Ya. Worst of it is that they don't even expect to make much money from this port, they don't even expect to break even. The pc-crowd got this because they were screaming for it, I doubt they will fall for this next time. Lucky for you pc-crowd, you are getting to play the most brutally challenging, deep and entirely captivating rpg you have played in years, probably the last one you will ever get after being such a cruel mistress.

@Monk, maybe they will be a bit nicer once they see how incredibly big and complex this game is and that they get an even better version of it. It only barely fitted under the hood of the consoles they are used programming for, getting the exact same game should be good enough because that's what they asked for, but they are getting even more. You can't expect them to suddenly become an expert in pc-development. No poor port, a better version that might not look as good as current pc-games is really all you can realistically ask for

Well, I agree mostly, but if they have such a hard time doing a proper port, they could have paid a more experienced developer to do it.
    Like Crytek for example.

I wanted to wait for the PC port because I thought it would have crisper graphics etc.
I use the same 24" monitor for PC and PS3 anyway...

The whining about piracy isn't new and the argument is as stupid as it ever was.
Will a 360 controller be supported on PC or just mouse and keyboard?

the steam page reports it's controller enabled, that usually means it will work with a 360 pad. Don't have any other sources to verify though.

But that isn't exactly within the reach of a small team of japanese nerds. They had to make the original code work on a pc and they did exactly that. Don't complain. Play it, love it, and realise your daddy was tough on you but he has always loved you. Even if it is kinda frustrating sometimes (hehe read hard as hell, expect losing a fight with some bosses a LOT of times). Yes I'm overly passionate, but this is a really good game.

It's always amusing to hear someone complain about people complaining, 'specially frags.
Being better than the worst does not inherently make you good. But being better than the rest lets you brag.

Do you know how much it costs to not put Games For Windows Live on a game? Zero dollars. If the devs can't get their publisher (Namco-Bandai, not exactly a niche company) to give them a few people how know how to use a mouse and keyboard, why should anyone buy the game?

It will flop and the developers will blame pirates.

PC gamers are the most vocal part of the gaming "community," if you could even call it that. Sometimes that vocal aspect works well for us and causes publishers to think twice before enacting the latest DRM method, or other alienating policy. Other times not so much, and tends to work against the market's own good like in the case of Dark Souls, but it's not exactly all on the gamers.

If there is one thing PC gamers cannot stand it's a lackluster console port of a game they really want. You'll never find, at least in a consumer, a quicker turn from love for a product or publisher to full on hatred as the transformation that comes over a PC gamer when the game he bought turns out to be a bad port.. and from all indications, that's what Dark Souls is as sad as it is to say.

A 30 fps cap on a PC game is not acceptable in the age of DX11, quad core processors and SSDs. PC gamers pay a lot of money to build their rigs and they often must wait longer for releases if a publisher decides to delay the PC version (looking at you, assassin's creed). It is not outside the realm of reason to expect the developer to put effort into the PC version and allow the gamer the quality of a 60 fps experience. The human eye is quite capable of telling the difference between those lost 30 frames.

To be honest I'm not sure why anyone would demand a steam version after it was announced that Dark Souls would require you to install the atrocity that is Games for Windows Live. GFWL and Steam running side-by-side has lead to some of the most disasterous cluster- i've ever had in online distrubution software. GFWL often has trouble updating for me, forces you to sign into an external GFWL store to play DLC, and it's not uncommon for it to simply not allow me to sign in. Granted it's not as bad as it was, say, two years ago, but raising that spectre did the developers no favors. I know a lot of people who signed the petition for Dark Souls but felt extremely guilty about doing so when they heard GFWL would be in the box, as they avoid all games that come with that on principle.

As for the piracy thing i had to roll my eyes at that. I mean threatening to pirate a game unless you get your way, and then telling the devs that directly on twitter, has got to be one of the bigger scumbag things you can do as a consumer. I mean christ, why not just drive over to their house and relieve yourself in their spice garden while you're at it?
