Default (External HD) cyclic redundancy check error & RAW

So while transferring data I accidentally pulled out the wrong USB cable. The HD gave me some problems form then on so I decided to do a check for bad files and clusters and with repair. Now after it finished I couldn't acces the HD anymore at all and gave me the cyclic redundancy error. So I tried running chkdsk but it ruturned that the dsik is now in RAW format and thus cannot be accessed and checked.

I've read that I could possibly copy the files with http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/home-edition/ and could possibly fix it with testdisk; but I'm not all too savy. Anyone know something what to do best with such a problem. Except for formatting as I'd like to try and recover as much data as possible.

Do you feel like ripping out the HD from the enclosure and connecting to it via sata?

I've been considering it. But I'd rather not do it if there are other options.

It looks like the USB controller is fried, so the options are limited. I suppose you can try:

    http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
    http://www.piriform.com/recuva

You can also try plugging it into a number of ports and machines, though this probably won't work.
