  1. The Republicans have demonstrated repeatedly in this crisis that they will criticize the President for things he never said or did.
  2. It would save time and substantiate the accusation.
To be truthful, I did not read that account. A friend of a friend put it up on fb so it could easily be a misquote or even a fabrication.

My wrong assumption that it was so.
