I'm sure people have paid. There's really no incentive for them to fix the issue- so I'd be surprised if paying clears it up. They've already got your money... they could care less about you after that. This is a slightly more amusing take on other ransomware scams- like the phony anti-virus viruses that will clear up the problems they have caused if you just buy the full version of their software....
