    Default Way to go Australia

Australia publishes online register of child sex offenders

I approve of these measures done by the Australian government. These allows parents to protect their children from those creepy looking neighbours who seem a little too friendly with the children by knowing whether or not they are a convicted sex offender. I have no concern for vigilante attacks as the mere implication might be enough of a deterrent against anyone thinking of preying on the harmless.

I've not looked into the detail of this.

Is it a 35 year old abusing a 7 year old, or does it include a 19 year old screwing a 15 year old who said she was 18 when they met at the 18+ only night club?

I have no idea what the edited OP is about.

Anyway, measures like these do absolutely nothing whatsoever to protect children. All it can ever do, is add additional punishment to offenders, after they have served their time and is supposed to be free, de facto creating a life-sentence for all sex offences.

If your kid is abused, it won't be from a stranger in a park. It will be your father, uncle, teacher, football coach, local priest or, one of the worst, the 12-year old boy next door.

Different kind of measures need to be taken if your aim is to actually reduce the number of abused children. If all you want to do is create the illusion of security without making anyone a tiny bit safer, this is the perfect measure.

Conservatism in a nutshell, in other words. High on symbolism, low on reality.

I simply took some of Fragony's original points and worked them into a tangible opening post with a news source, opposed to simply locking the topic.

Either these people have served their time or they haven't. If they are so dangerous that they need to have a list follow them around for the rest of their lives, they may as well be kept in prison.

If we as a society do not believe that sex offenders can be rehabilitated, make the punishment a mandatory life sentence. Otherwise, these lists are cruel and abusive.

Not a mandatory sentence, just kill them, much better. It's not really murder as they are sick.

You do know that 30-50% of all offenders are minors themselves, right?

Not to mention that the majority of abusers are family or friends... just like murders and assaults, but people like to focus on the "stranger danger".

So don't kill these. But pedophilae can't be cured, and jail costs more than 200 euro's a day a person. Much better to euthanise them. Having any pity whatsoever is getting it all wrong. That kinda conflicts with our law so I like how Australia does it, you may not be dead but you will never be really alive either.

Euthenize? No. Castrate them and let out the "less likely to reoffend" offenders, keeping them on a short leash, if they reform society regains a tax payer and if they cant be let out we can use them for test subjects in a search for methods of supressing or even removing thier tendencys.

The problem I see here is that as far as the law is concerned "sex offenders" can include people who did comparatively little things dated a woman who said she was 18 when she actually was 15, or even teenagers who had relations with those of the same age. The problem with releasing sex offender registry details and the like is that the average paranoid parent probably thinks that the sex offenders are all rapists and paedos. The would be vigilantes won't differentiate between them and the jailbated and teenager "sex offenders" and may end up lynching an innocent or undeserving person.

Being better than the worst does not inherently make you good. But being better than the rest lets you brag.

Western Australia... It's like Texas on steroids... It's a state law & has a few caveats including up to ten years prison for any vigilante attacks... Which is often longer then the prison time for minor sex offenses... Much like perjury, vigilantism is seen as a perversion of justice and gets handled far more strongly then other crimes... Which makes sense otherwise you slip into a state no longer being valid.
