Interesting.
"Après moi le déluge"
Where are these assets from? A mod, an art project, what?
These are official armours from Rome 2 Total War. Images are from TW wiki on totalwar.com :)

Ah, I get it, okay, thanks!
I am so glad they released these! Boy, some of those make me very excited! I just cannot wait to see the Parthian Cataphracts!

This looks very nice indeed. Good job to unit designer Jack Lusted & his little helpers :)

damn tht looks epic!
We do not sow.
All of those I could actually cope with as there was some tenuous historical or mythological justification and accurate barbarian armies would have been incredibly boring (i.e. warband infantry, juvenile skirmishers with mixed missile weapons and cavalry and/or chariots) -what made the vanilla game unplayable for me was the Mummy Returns Egyptians - not least as they invariably became a superpower and eventually had to be fought even if you refused to play as them.
Dude, go and play Rome Total Realism, Europa Barbarorum or one of the other Rome period mods...
Plenty of interesting 'barbarian' stuff.
These armors etc are looking pretty sweet.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...
The barbarians are a bit Goth/New Wave if you ask me. Surely a culture so vain when it comes to looks and with true fashion, that was so colourful, to have all it's armour so blackish and grey is a tad bizarre.
I don't think I follow you here. Barbarian armies aren't so boring once you see how varied they were. Far more varied than Rome TW would portray.
LOL That was indeed a stain upon the reputation of CA for me. Hopefully they have learned... we can only hope.

I think these models look pretty awesome, and im sure they will add some colour to the units with the capes and other ongoing clothes ( im not sure how barbarians could even dye leather in large quantities /if they did/). With solid foundation the game should be enjoyable, and if it modability will be good then when can get another classic TW game.

Nice detail here.

Is that truly padding beneath the metal? Looks like CA is learning.

those shields they started with this look with EB and don't get me wrong i like this mod very much, but i can't get this out of my mind when i see designs like that all this ornaments which are celtic or barbaric or watever and they are repeted in every shield.
As computers goes very powerfull nowadays and computer grafics with all those cards and milions shaders and so on , I think that people ( artist or grafics ) forget one basic thing about people :
That no one is the same so therefore if I would be a Galic or Celtic or German warrior and all my willage wariors had desins and ornaments on their shields like those above that doesn't mean that i'm gona have one as well. I would like to have normal woodish one without anythig on it. :)
And when i kill some bad asses who dare to invade my country and even kill 100 people i would still have my normal ( outstanding in CA world) pice of wood called shield.
Maybe i just could not afford paint.
Maybe im just a simple man and don't need it. Dont' belive in any talismans etc.
Maybe my broder who has same as mine bare shield thinks that enemy blood do the painting.
Come on.
And one more thing i didn't notice that any todays soldiers in any way on this scale were making a weapon their pet.
As to a stunnig look or good grafics I don't see a reason why those shields (1/3 or close) could't look simple. just to show a different kind of wood, scraches, dirt, wood ageing etc, will make them brillian not nececary painings on them.
Not mentions the sizes - probably to early for them to vary (i uderstand limitations) so even more You should think about my sugestions.
I dont' have to be archeologist or historian to now that is not which we can call historical accuracy.
I Hope The team will remember that some circumstances did not let some wariors make such a mastrpiece of art, beacouse they just had not enough time for fun left they were to busy thinking of war.
And one more thing : check this one as when i see those beutifully crafted paited shields i have all the time this in my mind :
http://www.polishamericancenter.org/Pisanki.htm
I simply do not belive all wariors even with strong society with traditions will be the same kind of attencion payed to the stupid shield. :)
Even with eggs not all people are doing them.
That's just an small criticizm from my side hope somebody who has some influence will read this.
That said all the best. :)

"Après moi le déluge"
I sence an anachronistic attitude towars warfare here.
The Celtic and germanic warriors whose shields we are discussing about here are not Soldiers that fight to secure our freedom in some obscure country on the other side of the globe. They are warriors that fight for their tribe, family, honor and loot. They don't get a new Shield from the state incase they loose it or get a dent in it. Their shield, spear and sword are their most prized possessions. It might have been a present from a brother in arms* or a family heirloom. In some societies Spear and shield were an obligatory sign of manhood. In times of Peace one did not stow away shield and spear in the garage or the like. They were displayed, maybe above the fireplace, maybe in some other manner. Such an Object was cherished and countless hours by the winter fire were spent decorating this most personal possession. You also have to take into account that War was not all about marching and fighting but also a lot of waiting.
Some shields were protected by magic signs that ensure the bearer of a deities support, some say "FEAR ME" others "I'm Fabulous, bitch!". While undecorated shields would undoubtably pop up from time to time, This would be a rather limited phenomenon.
*or someone who you helped marry off his problem daughter to a suited noble(see the song of the nibelungs part 2)
"Who fights can lose, who doesn't fight has already lost."
- Pyrrhus of Epirus
"Durch diese hohle Gasse muss er kommen..."
- Leonidas of Sparta
"People called Romanes they go the House"
- Alaric the Visigoth
Looking good, shields in particular look excellent. Very much like EB.
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.
Could I ask people to be on the look out, earlier somebody hacked into our private forum and downloaded a load of files containing our Sweboz, Pritanoi and Gallic shields and..... wait a cotton picking minute!![]()
