Default School students suspended for saving a life

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013...ets-suspended/

A Florida high school student wrestled a loaded gun away from another teen on the bus ride home this week and was slapped with a suspension in return.

The 16-year-old Cypress Lake High student in Fort Myers, Fla. told WFTX-TV there was “no doubt” he saved a life after grappling for the loaded .22 caliber revolver being aimed point-blank at another student on Tuesday.

“I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there,” said the suspended student, not identified by WFTX because of safety concerns. “Not taking no pity.”

The student said the suspect, a football player, threatened to shoot a teammate because he had been arguing with his friend.

Authorities confirmed to WFTX the weapon was indeed loaded, and the arrest report stated the suspect, identified by WVZN-TV as Quadryle Davis, was “pointing the gun directly” at the other student and “threatening to shoot him.”

That’s when, the teen told the station, he and two others tackled the suspect and wrestled the gun away. The next day, all three were suspended.

“How they going to suspend me for doing the right thing?” he asked.

The school’s referral slip said he was given an “emergency suspension” for being involved in an “incident” with a weapon. Lee County School District spokesman Alberto Rodriguez said in a statement that “If there is a potentially dangerous situation, Florida law allows the principal to suspend a student immediately pending a hearing.”

“Those kids had to fight for their lives,” the mother of the suspended teen said. “All the kids that was involved in this they should have a pat on their backs because they did the right thing to save someone from burying their child.”

The suspended teen is allowed to go back to school Monday.

Meanwhile, the student accused of pointing the weapon has been charged only with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon “without intent” to kill.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and that the charges are “based on our findings at this time.”
Coming off the recent school shootings and arguments about gun control, this is just plain weird.

How can you suspend school students for saving lives? America has so many problems that they don't seem to care about fixing.

Student was suspended for assaulting another student, not for saving lives.

Seems silly, but it's not exactly outlandish by any means.

The school would probably have a zero-tolerance approach to physical hostilities, it would've just been policy to do this. The principal, or whoever suspended the student, treated it like any other physical confrontation between students.

Yeah, it's the school showing off their zero-tolerance intelligence policy.

They are like frightened, quivering cowards who want to 'cover their asses' to the maximum extent possible, and if something bad happens after they did this it's much easier to avoid being blamed then if something bad happened and they hadn't suspended this student.

I always assume that all utrageous stories are misleading. The follow-ups usually make you go "oh okay, I see what they were doing now, and it ain't so bad after all".

Also: the student is hailed by his fellow students. He's likely to be swimming in girl's private parts. He now has a few days off school to take advantage of that. If that's not a win-win situation, nothing is.

Instead of coming back Monday he should have told the principal who seems to have none "See You Next Tuesday"...

Sounds to me like they weren't trying to punish him, just taking him out of school for a few days. The article is making a big deal out of nothing.

Agreed, but what about the guy pulling a gun not having any intention to kill, what are guns for. Not something where a slip on the wrap should suffice. Father made an donation allready

It is plane stupid to suspend the students who took the gun.

A police report was filed. Do they think they can do a better job investigating the incident?

What sort of message does it send? Stand by and wait for someone to get killed and then hope you are not next.

This is not poor judgment. It is bad judgment and who wants people like that looking after kids.

This is why in Hollywood movies it is the teens who generally end up being the heroes of the hour.

This. We always find out the kid was out of his mind on the pot.
