No matter what, there is going to be some subjectivity in exactly what the troops looked like. But you should be able to find most of what you need there. Under the factions tab you can look at the different troops.

You have plenty of site references, but as these are maintained by reenactors or historians, i think you can find what you search on your subject for modelling.
Also what do you have planned to model as i'm painting and modelling myself ? (if you think the question is too curious ignore it )
