Thread: Crazy restaurant owners or something more devious....

Default Crazy restaurant owners or something more devious....

So I there was this episode of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey and for the first time, Ramsey met two owners who were more bat**** insane than him. Here is the full episode, very entertaining imo cuz I like trashy tv from time to time.

Now the real interesting part comes from the internet detectives at reddit. How does a restaurant that serves piss poor food and long waiting times survive? Also of note is the owner taking away all tips from the servers and he doesn't even let the server handle the POS system. People have claimed that the store might be a cover for a money laundering operation where the dude is funneling money through the restaurant and his crazy trophy wife is ignorant of it all. Why would he agree to be on the show? Well the wife is crazy and seems to get what she wants. The episode has generated a whole backlash against the restaurant and if I don't read about it closing within 6 months I am calling shenanigans.

It's more likely that they made a lot of the drama up just for TV.
After all there is hardly a reality show on TV anymore, it's all just "scripted reality" where they "spice up" the whole story a bit by telling people to act this or that way or even hiring people as layman actors or whatever that's called.

It's all made up to draw people who "like trashy tv from time to time" to make them watch it because just showing how it really is doesn't cut it. Here in Germany there was a case where they auctioned off a hard to sell house for a family on TV and once the cameras were off it turned out that all the buyers at the auction were bought, the auction was completely fake since they found no buyers and the family was left sitting on their house while the TV channel could present itself as some kind of charitable entity...

How can you possibly post this thread without a link to the Facebook fiasco? The show made them amusing, but their actions on Facebook make them legend.

Im not so sure about it in this case, as the waitress who was fired, KatY, did an AMA on reddit and confirmed that the drama in that episode, at least, was real. Whether this is absolute proof, I dont know, but Im a bit hesitant in this case to call it all staged.

I doubt it was staged (well, at least mostly so). who would want to pretend to live in a world where Ramsey is on your backside?

They stayed in business because they repackaged and resold. Anyone can do that and make money until the customer finds out

    I saw that episode.

If I remember correctly they met at the Playboy Mansion; I suspect the guy could care less if the restaurant makes money as long as it keeps wife happy; she seems to like the idea of being a restaurant owner and boss; her lack of culinary ability or interest in developing such a talent is not an obstacle under the present arrangement. The appearance on Kitchen Nightmares seems more of desire for personal publicity than "making the restaurant work".
