I'm starting to think the concept of the "friendzone" can be a little chauvinistic.

The way it's used invariably denotes females as objects that will extend or withhold sex depending on how they are dealt with.

This is of course a perfectly reasonable characterization, but it's not something specific to females.

Any construction that treats men as true agents and females as behavioral outputs would of course be chauvinistic...

Good points. The reason I didn't see it before is because I thought it had more to do with how attractive the man behaved and I didn't notice the "women as objects" aspect of the concept. It has always bothered me that being just friends with women is looked down upon by some people.

That's so gay ;) Perfectly fine to just be friends with females. Not saying nothing ever happened but it doesn't mean anything now.
