The principle of teleological diffusion seems to lead many into conceptual difficulty when they attempt to grasp the notion that human verbal behavior is simply the mutual regulation (i.e. manipulation and maintenance) of interlocking operant contingencies.
In other words, the typical retort is in fact a first-order perspective disguised as a meta-perspective disguised as a first-order perspective. And so, confusion leads these to reject out-of-hand some irrelevancies made up to approximate the original thought, when in fact their very act of doing so corresponds precisely to the notion's predictive framework.
