The battlefield engine is restricted to one unit per model per faction; i.e. you cannot bring two different units with the same model to the battlefield, or else it will crash. There is a workaround: if one (not both) of the units has the mercenary attribute, the crash won't occur. However, since Solduros share their model with Arjos, Rycalawre and Kuarothoroi, I guess the team already used this trick.

Can the Aedui recruit any of these? If not, you could try adding the mercenary attribute to the general's unit and see if that works.

recently I've modded a little EB (for my mod) and, among the changes, I added a couple of mercenary general units and they work fine

maybe the battle engine treat the general_unit in a similar way to the mercenary_unit tag?
