    Default No variety of some units + clone armies

    I recently seen units. I am full of admiration for the work that they have done.
    It is very good.

    Dacians, Thracians, Greeks, Romans, Parthians, Scythians, Iberians, Gauls, Britons, Germans - all between them are different.
    Each of these cultures have different clothing, helmets and armor. The game has up to 7 different Phrygian helmets (2 bearded classical Hellenistic, 1 mixed Phrygian-Boeotian, 1 mixed Prygian-chalcidian used by Thracians, 2 Dacian helmets and 1 used in Italy). There are many cuirasses and perhaps as many as 11 different linothorax (7 Greek, 2 Carthaginian, 2 Persian). I admire their work.

    But there is one problem. Some of the units aren't various. So they look like "clones".
    For example - Roman Socii until three units: Hastati, Extraordinari, Equites - they have the same helmet, armor, and differ only shields.
    It's a little weird because the game is several Italian helmets and armors. Samnites have different armors and helmets, but Socii have one helmet and armor on the unit.

    In other fractions can see a similar problem. Britons use until 7 helmets, but this unit has only one helmet:

    I'm surprised the lack of variety of units for the period of the Imperial Romans. This is the main fraction and should be more diverse. In Rome 2 - Republican Romans have a wide variety of helmets. But the Imperial Romans have only two infantry helmets (Italic A and Gallic A; there is one Coolus but used in Republic, too). Units such as the Praetorians and armored legionaries have only one helmet. Here is an example:

    For comparison, one unit Iberian has up to 6 types of caps and three types of helmets. That's up 9 headgear. They look amazing. So CA should give more Imperial Roman helmets for legionaries + as the main faction.

    Considering how pretty much every TW game has clone armies in one sense or another, Im not surprised. Also because of the game's rushed state, Im not surprised either.

    This is one reason why I await Rome Total Realism 2 and EB2.

    Units make a big difference in TW as those are what you see in battles, Rome 2's unit perhaps just felt a bit lacking imo.

    I don't see this as flawed at all. Reflects standardization of equipment in professional military units.

    Makes perfect sense to me that irregular, militia, and citizen-army units would have substantial variation in equipment - at least cosmetic if not in substantive function. Each soldier (who was almost always part-time) often provided his own gear; as long as he had a helmet of some type, spear of a certain min/max length, and some form of armor, he was good to go. Whereas higher-end units of professional troops would all have the same (good) stuff provided to them by the state...equipment expressly produced in centralized workshops "according to spec".

    Many units in this time frame don't have super standardized equipment. Not even the Romans whose equipment varied quite a bit. Even later on during the later Empire when there's these things called fabricaes which mass produced arms and armor in a large scale compared to a principate Rome.

    Yet each Roman had quite a variance in arms, kit , etc. Arms and armor is deducted from your pay and you could get some non standard issued stuff.

    Even Principate Roman troops equipment varied, some got mail, some got segmentata, some got scale. Then their kits, arms, etc. Now early Rome is even more varied as of course the farmers bought their own arms.
