I have found a better candidate as the source of Ian Heath's Sergeant-at-Arms in Armies of Feudal Europe 1066-1300


In an illumination of Louis IX setting out on the Seventh Crusade in a Chroniques de France ou de St Denis are 3 horsemen that fit the description. This is dated after 1332 & before 1350, but if this is not the source then it would be a similar scene in another Chroniques de France ou de St Denis manuscript.
