Default Greenpeace & Diplomatic riot done right

    Russia vs Netherlands 1-2

It's kinda amazing. The Russian ambassador got arrested after his wife rammed 5 cars, drunk as only Russians can be. Inreturn the Dutch ambassador in Russia got beaten up and tied to a chair. Now the Russian ambasee in The Hague was vandalised.

Cold war how I missed ya

Edit, forgot a part, a few bored rich kids from Greenpeace who tried to enter a Russian oil-platform are still being held captive. hilarity, Greenpeace wants Russia to turn up the heat because the cells are too cold. Miss daddy already lol you couldn't make it up. And they don't even see the irony.

I think Greenpeace is a little shocked at someone playing hard-ball and playing for keeps with them.
In most Western countries they would lean on public support/pressure to ease the pain; Russia, people have their own problems :p

Undoubtedly the cells are being kept colder as a by product of minimizing their carbon footprint. Their Russian hosts are simply adapting to their "guests" sensibilities a touch.....

Heh they got piracy-charges and there ain't no daddy there if you mess with mother Russia. i have zero pity with them as they are bored rich kids without a care in the world here when they throw giant blocks of concrete here, fisherboats can sink because of these things. Piracy charges in Russia, 15 years. Mother Russia surerily shows bored rich kids who is their daddy. Don't touch that ovenkinda stuff technically. Adieu bored rich kids kids meet the reality of Russians who actually have something to complain about.

    Daddy?

I believe the "drugs" consisted of the medical supplies all ships must carry.
Anything worth doing is worth over-doing when it comes to trumping up the charges :p

We live in interesting times. Who knows what this geopolitical battle between Great Powers will lead to?

Dutch law mandates that all ships under its flag must have morphine aboard. --> Russian media: they had drugs on board! They're not being charged for it, because:
    - the whole idea is ludicrous in any case, and even sham courts need a veneer of credibility
    - no jurisdiction

The pretext that's being used for detaining and prosecuting them is that physically putting a protest sign on a drilling platform amounts to piracy. I don't care much for Greenpeace or their ideas, but they did not deserve this.

Oddly enough, Russia is within it's rights to arrest them and charge them with piracy. When convicted, Russia would be within its legal rights to assign them the full penalty for piracy.

Article 101 includes "any act of depredation" against another's property at sea. Vandalism counts (although it is really picky to define a protest sign in this manner).

UNCLOS goes on to grant the "arresting" state full authority to charge and prosecute them under its laws. I was not able to locate the current penalty for piracy under Russian law. Following the lead of most European states, it probably does not involve a death sentence.

Russia would be idiotic to impose such a penalty and it would end up causing them more grief than it would be worth, but it would be within their legal rights.

Oh they do deserve this, here they get away with anything, Greenpeace could certainly qualify for being a criminal organisation, they have absolutily no problem with other people risking their life, these concrete blocks they drop can sink a ship. And now these bored rich kids are in a cold Russian cell and complain about the climate control. Screw them.

In Russia it takes four men to take out the garbage.

Obviously vodka glass bottles weigh more then milk plastic bottles.

Actually Russia has abolished the death penalty completely. Belarus is the only country in Europe that still retains capital punishment.

Bah, it's a bs charge. They're Greenpeace activists. Ok, you arrested them and detained them, made them sweat a little, now you release them and do it all over again when they appear next time.

No damage was done. They broke some rules, so you arrest and detain them and release them after a few days. That's SOP.
