Thread: Campaign Map camera orientation getting "stuck"

Default Campaign Map camera orientation getting "stuck"

Ok, this has happened to me late in my last two campaigns. First occurrence was during Patch 3, second was Patch 5 (last night). In both cases, it happened like this:

During AI turn, a battle pops up, initiated by AI. The camera orientation turns away from true north, and zooms in on the two army icons. After battle resolution, the camera then normally zooms back out and reorients toward north. In these cases, however, because the battle occurs during AI turn, the AI immediately starts jumping ahead to next actions, and the camera reorientation gets interrupted and hangs up.

This camera orientation stays put...even during my turn. I'm then stuck playing the rest of the campaign (however many turns that is) with a skewed camera orientation. About 30 degrees or so to the northwest.

This last occurrence, I reloaded the last save three times, hoping that the camera would function correctly after the battle, or maybe perhaps the AI would choose not to fight that battle at all. Didn't work. So now I'm breezing along with Pontus looking at the map from a new angle.

It's really not that big a deal, and actually kind of interesting to look at all the campaign map landmasses from a different angle. But it's clearly an unintentional bug.

Has this happened to others? Is there a way to clear it?

Don't the usual keys for camera control work? WASD for movement and I think Q and E for rotation? Mouse wheel to zoom in and out?

Um....do those work for the campaign map? Thought that was only for battle.

I suspect I'm going to feel really stupid when I fire up the game in a few minutes.....

Yep, feeling stupid. Never used WASDQE keys on the campaign map before, always just the mouse & mousewheel...which works for everything except rotating.

I guess it's up to the moderators whether to mercifully delete this thread, or, as is more probable, let it stand as a monument to Bram's imbecility.

Can't wait for THIS one to scroll off the bottom of the first page. Post more new topics, folks!!!

Took me a while to figure out of the rotate keys as well. For me it was when I was using WASD to move and accidently hit the Q key and was all "Heeeeeeeeey now"

Now you must actively solicit new posters to come here to hide this. Or it will haunt you. Forever.

First, check if the monitor is plugged in. The same test should be applied to the mouse and the keyboard. ;)

Actually, there is some camera related bug that happens during the battles. Sometimes, the camera would start moving and it is impossible to stop it. Once it reaches the edge of the map, it just "slides" along it. Opening the tactical overview sometimes gets rid of this problem. Again: that's a solution not available if playing on Legendary difficulty.

There is a bug like that in multiplayer campaigns, where the camera just gets stuck and you can't move it any other way than to click on the map. It breaks the entire save as well, so you have to meddle with the save file to fix it. Fairly annoying.
