Default The eleventh minute, of the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day

It is called other things in other places; here in the USA it is Veteran's Day.

We honor those who took their place in the line, answering the call of their nations, and who in their hearts were defending home and loved ones. The politics leading them to war and the myriad other risks of service are debatable -- at times detestable -- but their service is not and should be honored.

As a history buff, I have always felt a special sense of sadness for the era that was ended by the Great War -- "A whole generation who were butchered and damned" indeed.

    And the band played...
"The only way that has ever been discovered to have a lot of people cooperate together voluntarily is through the free market. And that's why it's so essential to preserving individual freedom.” -- Milton Friedman

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule." -- H. L. Mencken
