    Default Some basic Hotseat questions about Total War games in general

    Hello,

    I don't know if this is the right forum for this...you guys don't exactly have a forum dedicated to broader, general questions about the Total War series as a whole, but if you had, I'm guessing that this would belong in there.

    My friends and I constantly find ourselves playing hotseat campaigns in Civilization V on my computer. My friends are all newbs when it comes to strategy games so at the beginning of the semester I recommended that we play a Civ V hotseat campaign to pass any times where we were all super bored. However, I'm not really all that big of a fan of Civ V, and I've been trying to convince them all to play a Total War hotseat game with me. Unfortunately, there are no Total War games that HAVE hotseat functions (I don't know if Rome II has a hotseat game mode, but I can't play it on my computer, so that's out of the question regardless). I don't want to have to do any of this 'send game files through email' stuff. I just want to be able to play a campaign on a single computer on a single instance of a Total War game with several users playing as human-controlled factions.

    I'm not sure which Total War games I would be able to do this with. I have Shogun 2 but it runs rather poorly. The only other two TW games I own are Rome 1 and Medieval 2. Is it possible to play a single-computer hotseat campaign with either of those games? If yes, how would I go about doing it?

    Thank you so much!

    Hey shinderhizzle84, welcome!

    Medieval 2: Total War (with the Kingdoms expansion) is your perfect fit. You can select whcih factions are playable and they will take turns on the same PC, the other factions will be handled by the AI.

    I recommend a mod like Stainless Steel or Third Age Total War. Check this post on how to set one up. Also, the guide i've written (stickied here) is a good way to get the hang of M2TW hotseats.

    If you guys get the hang of it and want a larger game or even a team vs. team fight, come up and we can set it up

    factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations,
    when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field.

    These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth;
    (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.
