Yes, but he threw plague victims on tops, as well as sending carriers forward to infiltrate enemy lines. First known example of biological warfare I think. Besides that, it must have been quite a sight. The impaling as well of course but they were kinda still alive when they were impaled so it doesn't really count. A bit harsh he certainly was, that has got to hurt somewhat.

The battle of Shipka, August 1877
Epic last ditch defense that lasted 3 days. The 7500 or so Bulgarian rebels held off Suleiman Pasha's army of 27,000 until reinforcements arrived. The Bulgarians were poorly equipped and even more poorly supplied. At the culmination of the fighting, the Bulgarians had started running low on ammunition. They started raining rocks and tree logs on the advancing Ottoman forces. When those were exhausted, someone yelled "throw the bodies!". And so they did, and that their own dead were used as projectiles to halt the advancing Ottoman infantry. This proved effective, not in the least because of the great hit on enemy morale it incurred. The Ottomans were unable to take the high ground and thus - were unable to cross the Balkan mountain over to northern Bulgaria and so they were not able to relieve the siege of Pleven.

there is a certain poetry about it.
Also, none of you are likely to be familiar with 'the big man'. a glasgow gangster (comedy character) of legendery wit & guile.
