This has also been posted in the Entrance hall:
Out of curiosity I am interested to know the preferred unit size you start a campaign with and why. I tend to use huge but there is a downside.............longer to build. On the other hand players may use small unit size because of their graphics card.........comments please

Default. My PC meets the recommended (not minimum) specs, barely, so this kinda dictates the best size for me.
It's getting warm in here...that must be one hell of an INFERNO

I used to use Huge Units, but have stopped.

It was nice to get more troops on the battle fields, the the unit sizes are quite unweldly (try manouving your archers in a long line of 2 ranks..) and it actually starts to make the battlefield look small.

And it is not like you get any extra troops. The units are twice the size, cost twice the amount and take twice as long to build.

I use the 2nd biggest because the biggest size takes twice as long to build.

I prefer huge, here's why. Get good metalsmiths and armourers in one or two provinces and use these just for retraining; build the units elsewhere. New huge units take 2 years to train but retraining only takes one year, even if just one man left. All this makes building/rebuilding a well-equiped army that much faster.

I have played one full campaign on huge and it was quite fun. But it takes a loooong time to recover from a major defeat or phyrric victory.

I have played 2 half campaigns on default (one because the patch came out, the other because it is unfinished) and it is very easy to build a huge army, or recover from a big battle. You have to use a garrison of 2 units in your provinces which is a bummer as in huge you only need one.

Archer units are more powerful against low armour units in huge. But they have difficulty making much of a dent in 200 chiv sergeants :o 200 chiv sergeants are just plain :o anyway... (or were prepatch anyway)
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...
