    Default Dismounted Cavalry?

Does anyone know if its worthwhile using any of the Rome2 cavalry units dismounted?
Its a feature that was sorely missed from Medieval 1 but I've actually not really used since except a bit with Dragoons in Empire.

In Medieval 1 I used to use some of the Knights dismounted quite often, as they had really powerful infantry mode.
Other units dismounted to pretty mediocre spear infantry so were not worthwhile to dismount most of the time.

I've messed with dismounting a bit in Rome2 but the only time I've done it in combat has been a couple of times recently capping flags in settlements where you need infantry to cap.
Often I completely forget that its even possible.

Question came to mind a while back while playing a Odrysian Kingdom campaign: The Thracian units are pretty cool, but the unit roster is completely lacking in spear units and they lack severely in defense skill -> tend to take frightening casualties in any protracted combat.

It occured to me that I could probably try dismounting cavalry to see if any of them have good spear infantry mode, but I rarely have more than a couple of cavalry units most of the time & got bored of that campaign shortly after so didn't actually get to try it out.

Due to the lower unit sizes for it to be worthwhile I'd be expecting the Cavalry in question to dismount to a proper elite infantry unit.
Just getting like 60 Hoplites is probably not worth it most of the time.

So which cavalry dismount to good elite infantry?
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

I would imagine that any heavy cavalry, especially melee cavalry, would also be good as infantry, but I tend to use cavalry as cavalry so I dont really know.

    Well you'd think.

Several I've looked at seem to be not much more than Hoplites when dismounted though.

The horribly clunky Encyclopedia makes unit stat comparisons pretty hard & I'm not sure if there are stat changes between mounted & dismounted.

Here is a slightly better database for Rome 2 stats.

I wonder if it also has to do with unit numbers. an 80 man cavalry unit cannot stand against a unit twice its number.

They make bad infantry and yes, the main problem is the unit size. Might work against light infantry (archers and such) but otherwise no. I never dismount anything and never use dismounted units except for the naval landings, where you end up with a dismounted general (although sometimes, I'll swap the general for a different one before the battle and put him in some kind of heavy infantry unit)

If the unit info cards can be trusted, dismounted cavalry retain their extra hit-points. For example, dismounted elephant riders show up with 700+ hps.
