Sweden's politics are generally not that interesting... But now... My oh my... The **** just hit the fan.
Quick background:
Sweden has traditionally had 2 political "blocks".
On one side: The Socialists and the "Left" (read communists).
On the other side: The Moderates, Center Party, Liberal party, and Christian party.
We also have the Environmental party... They have traditionally been up for grabs for each side, but has lately turned more communistic than even the communists(!!!).
Now, on the scene... The Swedish Democrats (Horrible Nazi party who want to diminish immigration to our surrounding nations level)... These got as much as 13% of the votes this last election... It flabbergasted every other politicians (but not the people).
Regardless: It so happened that NEITHER the right or left wing blocks got their own majority...
The horrible Nazis *said with voice dripping of sarcasm* is thus in a position where they can control whatever happens. Vote for the block they prefer, and have the last say.
Here is the problem:
The left wing have built their whole politics on hating on the right block, not to mention the Swedish Democrats... It is thus hard for them to open up for discussions with them.
The right wing block, absolutely ABHOR the Environmentalists, so this of course makes it hard to cooperate with the left block.
Also, the right wing block has made an "alliance", that worked quite well and ruled Sweden the last 8 years... If ANY of the 4 right wing parties breaks the alliance and start cooperating with the left, they will be shunned not just from their allies, but by their voters as well.
As the two most likely right wing parties to flip side is VERY close to not reaching the % to be in the government, they just cant afford the risk.
Now, the left block had most votes, and thus held the "parliament". However, now when the budget was voted for, the Swedish Democrats voted for the right blocks budget.
The left is of course unable to lead with a right block budget... So the WHOLE of Swedens politics is now in shambles.
Neither block can work with the other block, as the voters would punish them HARD.
Neither block can work with the Swedish Democrats, as the voters would punish them HARD.
So, we are in a complete deadlock.
The Prime Minister yesterday admitted defeat and that he is unable to govern... And declared that we will have a new election. It will be held 22th of March...
So... We basically have no government till then (they are only allowed to keep te country running, not make any new decisions).
This is an absolute LAUGH![]()

Specially since the most likely party to GAIN by a re-election is the Swedish Democrats, as people are fed up with the rest of the politicians unable to work together.
My guess is that the Swedish Democrats will go from 13% - to somewhere between 15 - 18%... Thus making the stalemate even WORSE...
My oh my, these are interesting times in the Swedish Politics...
35% of the voters thought the Swedish Democrats had done the CORRECT thing when they caused this parliamentary crisis... Compare that to the 13% who voted for them... And you see that the Swedish people are just fed up with the politicians...
I hope I have explained this clearly enough... It's actually quite interesting, and the next election will really dictate what course Sweden will steer in the foreseeable future...
Thank you for your time, please feel free to ask questions :)
