Post Reviews for Total War: Attila and not Attila Total War

The first reviews for the upcoming game have been released.

    The Sycophant:

It's the magazine that considered the broken beta of the 3rd of September as an amazing innovation of the video-gaming industry.

    The Honest, but too Neutral:

Nice chap, not like some shills of CA roaming the Youtube.

Also, dedicated to whoever still has some hope on PC Gamer's sincerity:

PC Mouthpiece's score for Attila: 83

PC Mouthpiece's score for Rome II: 85

    The beauty of randomness.

Oh, let's not forget IGN, of course:

Surrealism in journalism. Magic I say, old beans!

Of course one cant rely on PC gamer or IGN, but what do you mean by "honest but too neutral"?

Personally Im waiting for DarrenTotalWar's review and regardless I wont be playing any serious campaigns in Attila until a few more months when I wrap up my Marcomanni AAR.

Not very excited either, as I have stopped buying TW games since ETW, but I must say I always enjoy that period, just before the extreme optimism is followed by... frustration.

Didn't mean anything specific, as I didn't even watch it.

Also, for now, GameSpot, the third joke of video-gaming journalism has released the lowest score for Attila, 7/10.

The first reviews leave me with the impression, that its a solid TW-game, but no new milestone which would really set it apart. I'm not suggesting, that this would make it a bad game, but I need a good cause to play it now instead of Rome 2, e.g. what really sets it apart in form of game mechanics. I'm looking forward to the first reviews from players, who are more into the game mechanics and so are able to make out the more subtle changes and evaluate the open things, like hordes, for example.

So DarrenTotalWar was hired by CA as a community video maker or something along those lines. Bummer, I was looking forward to his review of Attila, as I think he gives the best and most honest reviews of TW games and DLC.

    Pity.

Congrats to him though, I know he was trying to apply for a CA job for a while now.

Three Moves Ahead makes the best reviews, in my opinion

I also expected it, Lionheart implied that he Darren would probably be hired by CA, when he (Lionheart) was not invited in the summit, after his mistake, a year ago.

Whats this about Lionheart making a mistake or something? Im not really in tune with TW politics...

Anyways HeirofCarthage did a quick features video and while its not really a review it does give us a couple of things I didnt know such as better waypoints.

I admit that the night battles of Attila look much better than Rome's II. Those horrible spotlights screamed "rushed!".

He got invited so he would upload a video about the summit, but he never did (don't know why) and gossip says CA wasn't very pleased.

I am going to release 'KLA's Sassanian Generals Mod' in release day.

I know there are many dissapointed fans. I believed that CA will fix Sassanian units. In latest videos/screens I see only changed colors of units clothes and delete heavy spearman unit (they had correctly Persian caps but CA deleted them from roster). CA said that historical characters will look unique, but their Bahram IV is completely not historical. I am dissapointed that CA didn't change it.

    Mod will include:
    - add beards and long hair,
    - delete turbans,
    - use those winged helmets with bearded mask,
    - use specific Sassanian helmets.

If you would like to know why these things should be change there is my thread about historical mistakes of Sassanid units:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...assanian-units

This mod will be similar to another my project:

Review of the Viking Forefathers DLC:

Im not totally surprised that the difference between the DLC factions and the Saxons arent so different as they actually werent so different at this time (its Viking Forefathers for a reason), and thankfully the gap in the units can be filled by mods so all in all Im not very disappointed.

    Naval battle review:

Apparently naval battles arent nearly as bad as they were in Rome 2. Glad to hear!

Multiplayer: yes, but then again, multiplayer naval battles were kind of OK in RTW 2 as both players are unable to micro all the ships all the time.

Try them in SP, against the AI: it's pretty much the same madness.

Maybe, I havent really tried any serious naval battle against the AI but its the mechanics changing it from ramming-centric to boarding-centric.
