Ok this is about thunder bombers if you didnt already know. How will they're explosions be animated. Will they be like a musket except much much larger?

All I know is that they explode when they hit the ground and sometimes they backfire, but other than that I don't know.Sorry

At least the www.totalwar.com intro movie features a screenshot with TB explosion animations clearly visible - IIRC the www.gamespot.com screenshot archive does too, if you look for it. Based on how they look, I think they should have the capacity to kill multiple people at one shot, and that alone sets them apart from the musks. But lacking actual gaming experience, nobody can really be sure...

The thunderbombers have splash effect damage - they can take out several men with one bomb, including themselves. I tended to use them as suicide squads because they can cause mass disruption to enemy lines but they're virtually useless in close-quarter combat. Where they seemed to excel was clearing the walls of castles 'cos they con lob their bombs over the walls and decimate troops sitting around the perimeter, both from the inside out and vice versa.

Their range is pretty rubbish, because the bombs are thrown rather than catapulted, so they have to get quite close in order to hit the mark, and the pause between volleys leaves them quite vulnerable to counterattack from fast-moving units that they fail to kill. If they're left unsupported against anyone charging on a horse they are mincemeat, but if you support them with spearmen there's a chance they could wipe them out as well as the enemy.

So there you have it. Mass destruction, but unpredictable and worse than useless in melee.

AHHH! But the REAL question on everybody's mind: CAN THE SANDA BOMAS HURL THEIR WEAPONS AND ONLY KILL THE ENEMY WHILE LEAVING THEIR FRIENDLIES UNSCATHED?

    Of course!

(But only if the whole world is their enemy, including themselves...)

It's possible, but tricky. If your ranks are too deep the guys at the back will kill the guys at the front, so they'll obliterate themselves. If they're too shallow, and you select a close target, the bombers on the end will throw the bombs to the front-centre of the unit...and they'll obliterate themselves.

It's not possible to turn friendly fire off, so there's a very real chance of blowing your own men to smithereens when using the bombers.

In one of the historical campaign battles, playing as Kublai Khan, you get given a couple of bomber units of 100 men (they normally come in packs of 20 ). Very amusing watching them stand in front of the enemy and detonate themselves.

If they freeze, will they just hurt a lot?

sounds like a good counter to the kensai to me.

target, do they have to have a target or can they throw to a point on the map without actually targetting anyone?

i always thought missile units shld be able to fire to a point on the map also rather than having to have a target. since gunfire goes thru lines of men to other lines of men behing them, i always thought it would be nice to be able to shoot to a point near the rear of troops...or into a woods you suspect of hiding ambushers or to just lay down cover fire.

I doubt they will work in rain or snow... pray for good weather or they are TRUE cannon fodder!

Did a quick check and Thunder bombers can't fire in the wet - unsure about snow though.

Kraellin, the missile still have to fire at someONE rather than someWHERE. Don't know if there are any plans to fix it, but if enough of you complain about it.....
