Thread: Eu2 style faction shields, or something else?

Default Eu2 style faction shields, or something else?

    @Stazi @cegorach
Now all faction shields in PMTW are using EU2 style shields(with my graphic pack). However, do you really happy with this? IMO, the problem of Eu2 shields is that the rim of the shield is too big, too big for MTW engine.

If you don't like the current Eu2 shields, here is two options:

1, there is a blank graphic templates of MTW, I can use it to make all shields of P&M in original MTW style.

2, Convert shields form FTG1.2 and make shieds in this style if needed. Here is some examples(Brandenburg, Livonian Con. , PLC, Russia )of FTG1.2 shields:

These two ways are both totally possible and not very time consuming.

    Please tell me your opinion.

Any which work in the game and can be provided for ALL factions.
I have used EU2 shields mainly because these were easy to find and were all made in the same style.

I also couldn't get rid off those black spots in BIFs so any approach which eliminates this rubbish is good enough.

Images from the game would be the decisive factor.

It is talking about the unit icons but the principle is the same.

Generally speaking, use Purpgrab.exe or Seqgrab.exe to convert shields from BMP to BIF, instead of Bifreader.

    That is useful.

When it comes to the shields I leave the decision to you - but all shields must be made in the same style, including odd, MP/custom mode only factions such as Uzbeks, Iroquis or even Hawaii if I find space for them in the non-campaign mode (I have a list of units researched over 7 years ago).

In general shields and icons is something which has to be done eventually - quite many are left to finish so if you are willing to make any I support it.

If your color table is properly formatted any program works. Maybe except Purpgrab which usually gives me terrible results. Icons are a little different because normally, the last 32 colors are for faction coloring. In icons - 48. Example:

on the left original icon bif (made via Bifreader), on the right colored by Scottish colors in game.

About shields I'd like you to hold on for a while. A few days ago I've started to work on new GUI (based on EU4). Maybe it's not much but I think this mod deserves a little different art style than vanilla MTW. For now it's in very early stage and progress is not fast cause I've never worked on GUIs before. So, we'll probably need slightly different shields for it. Lets leave shields as they are for a while. Changing shields now will be a waste of time if we decide to use new GUI and have to do all the shields again.

    A little example:

As I said it's just the beginning. I haven't had much time to work on this since that 1024p texture thing. BTW which coat of arms do you prefer - 1st with lion supporters or 2nd with sabers?

    Again I am very impressed.

The lions could be better given the number of important factions with lion in their coat of arms, plus it fits nicely in the Lion of the North campaign.

    Hi!

Bohemia will be a playable faction in one campaign - the Lion of the North and it already has a set of units it will have.

If you want to propose historical commanders I am open to suggestions.

This area is somewhing where my knowledge is very limited.

All have to be active after 1618.
