On this, the first day of the Living Room Showdown, the furniture carefully relaxed their tense springs and puffed up wood and plush. They had discussed for a long time, pointing out each other's shiny bits, and how some of them didn't creak or croak when they were applied weight to, and how some were free from wear and stains. Screws, nails, wooden peg legs and tassels pointed throughout the room. Chairs, tables, shelves and lamps shook their heads and shrugged their shoulders as only furniture can do.

Finally it came down to two pieces. Both very suspicious looking. Both seemingly too fancy for such a common room of common Scandinavian design, cheaply mass produced for the masses of people who spend their Saturday going to a furniture store to have meatballs and potatoes instead of going to a REAL restaurant, like Burger King.

But, I digress. Two pieces were chosen, and they were both put against one another in a very unspectacular showdown (because really, what can you expect? ). One seemed rather taken with the idea of finer cuisine, and the other seemed rather unimpressed and oblivious to how this whole showdown was to happen.

"How hard can it be? You have to be CLEAR when you vote for someone!" a rug shouted from the hallway.

Most of the other furniture picked sides. Were they both a bit too fancy for the schmancy, or was it just one of them, and in that case, which one was it? Could it be neither? Judging style can be a bit tough when all you've known is the warehouse shelf of an IKEA store.

It was time to make a final choice. Some rustle and bustle as the furniture all had their final say, and it was decided.
